The Most Expensive Cars in the World Are an Eight-Figure Game of Top Trumps
Whether it’s a person showing off their new home or a gym rat quite literally flexing in the mirror, a flex is a flex. However, we can think of no bigger flex than these stratospherically expensive hypercars and bespoke Rolls-Royce models.
The most expensive cars in the world are a collection of eight-figure bragging rights
Model | Approximate price |
Rolls-Royce Droptail | $31.0 million |
Rolls-Royce Boat Tail | $28.0 million |
Bugatti La Voiture Noire | $18.9 million |
Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta | $17.5 million |
Spyros Panopoulos Chaos | $14.4 million |
The most expensive car in the world is more of a set of bespoke cars than it is one model. It can be none other than the mind-blowingly opulent Rolls-Royce Droptail line, a series of coachbuild convertibles. Each one requires thousands of hours of labor to create. As such, the Droptails are some of the most expensive cars in the world.
For instance, the eye-popping La Rose Noire, Black Baccara-inspired Droptail was a $30,000,000 testament to patience and craftsmanship. Rolls-Royce says the build required over 1,600 pieces of hand-finished woodwork assembled over nearly two years. Furthermore, according to the New York Post, the one-of-kind hand-built Rolls-Royce Arcadia Droptail demanded around $31,000,000 from its Singapore-based commissioner.
Unsurprisingly, the next most expensive car in the world is yet another Rolls-Royce. It’s the bespoke Boat Tail, the aptly named luxury land yacht. Oh, did I mention the cocktail tables and champagne chest? It’s no surprise, then, that a Boat Tail is rumored to be the crown jewel of Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s collection.
Beyond the obscenely posh Rolls-Royce models, three hypercars reign supreme. Specifically, the perception-challenging Bugatti La Voiture Noire takes the No. 3 spot at the better part of $19,000,000. And how could it not? With a quad-turbocharged 1,479-horsepower 8.0L W16 (yes, you read that right) and looks akin to a Xenomorph hunting Sigourney Weaver, it’s a testament to excess.
Not far behind Bugatti’s answer to the Batmobile, the Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta is a Mercedes-AMG-powered, open-top hypercar teeming with Pagani’s unique style. Better yet, the marque made just three of the Zonda HP Barchetta.
Finally, calling the Spyros Panopoulos Chaos (say that five times fast) a hypercar would be a bit of a faux pas. Well, that’s what the Greek marque says. It calls its Chaos performance car an “ultra car.” We’ll let them have it; it’s a 3,000+ horsepower ballistic missile with a 3D-printed V10. Funny enough, at around $14,400,000, the Chaos is around nine times pricier than a Tomahawk missile. So even for a missile, the Chaos is seriously spendy.
