Ford EcoSport

The EcoSport is Ford’s smallest SUV offering, but it has enough room to transport five adults in relative spunky style. The Edge has been on the market for over a decade and now offers some of the latest technical goodies that Ford has to offer, both inside the cabin and under the hood. On the inside, you’ll find features like the latest SYNC 4 technology as well as driver-assist features. But underneath the hood, you’ll find either a 250-hp, four-cylinder engine that can achieve up to an EPA-estimated 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, or a 335-hp twin-turbo V6. But if you want to best fuel economy, go with the latter choice.

Ford Explorer

The Ford Explorer has been one of the most popular SUV choices since the 90s and it doesn’t look like sales for it will be slowing down anytime soon. That could be due to the SUV’s handsome styling inside and out, its ability to accommodate up to seven passengers, or possibly its richness in tech-savvy features. But if fuel economy is what you’re after, then you’ll have to equip your Explorer with the base turbocharged 2.3-liter, four-cylinder engine as it’s able to achieve up to an EPA-estimated 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

Ford Escape

The Ford Escape offers plenty of seating for five and has been updated with a new look and even a new suspension for a better ride and overall handling. However, the biggest news is that the Ford Escape hybrid is back for the 2020 model year, so if you’re looking for the best fuel economy, then that’s the one to pick. It’s powered by a 2.5-liter engine that’s connected to a hybrid system that puts out 200 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. What’s more important, though, is that it can achieve up to an EPA-estimated 44 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway.
