We’re sure your town has at least one Jurassic Park inspired Jeep Wrangler or Ford Explorer. If you have a two-door Jeep YJ Wrangler, why not put a Jurassic Park sticker on the side of it? The Jurassic Park SUVs are just as iconic as the Velociraptors and the Indominus rex. Who could forget the green and yellow explorer, or the Hummer H1 that’s ripped to shreds? Jeeps are all over the new ‘Jurassic World Dominion’ film

Jeep knows this, and the new Jurassic Dominion is full of jeeps, from a classic Grand Wagoneer to the new Wrangler 4xe. And now with all of the dino-themed trucks, like the Ram TRX and the Ford Bronco Raptor, will there be a new Atrociraptor? More Wrangler replicas?  But what are the five most iconic SUVs from the Jurassic Park films?

1: The original ‘Jurassic Park’ vehicle, the Wrangler

The most iconic Jurassic Park vehicle has to be the original Jeep Wrangler.

The Jeep YJ is one of the most unloved Wranglers if you talk to Jeep folks. It’s the square-headlight Wrangler. It came about during a time when American Motors at the time was trying to modernize its Jeep lineup in the 1980s. It was wider, lower, and had better handling than the CJ it replaced. But its engines were what let it down. The original four-cylinder versions had just over 100 horsepower, while the “big” straight six made just 180. In Jurassic Park these Jeeps are manual transmission versions.

One of the unforgettable "Jurassic Park" vehicles is certainly the 1992 Ford Explorer.

Who can forget these SUVs getting torn to shreds? The 1992 Ford Explorers were used in the original film to take victims, err, visitors through the park. They had a glass bubble-top roof that, unfortunately, was not an option from Ford. In the film, each Tour Vehicle had an autonomous driving mode, which didn’t work quite as well as newer systems, night vision goggles, and fresh water. In the real world, the 1992 Ford Explorer was one of the first SUVs to gain mass-market acceptance. Though it’s underpowered by today’s standards, it was comfortable, roomy, and had a capable four-wheel-drive system.  Interestingly, in the novel, the tour vehicles were Toyota Land Cruisers.

‘The Lost World’ Mercedes ML320 was an unlikely ‘Jurassic Park” vehicle

The 1997 Mercedes Benz ML320 in The Lost World is one reason that SUVs became uber-popular. The SUVs from Mercedes looked a lot like minivans at the time, but the movie gave them some off-road adventure credibility. Of course, the three featured in the film had push-bars, lift kits, bubble roofs, and more than made these camo-colored Benzes look the part.

The 6×6 Mercedes AMG G-63 in Jurassic World

The Mercedes 6x6 was an AMG version with loads of horsepower and grip, but poor gas mileage.

The G-Class still looks pretty much the same seven years later. Mercedes updated the G-Class in 2019, but Mercedes did its best to keep its chunky, blocky, good looks. The 6×6 was not a factory option but a conversion that you can order through a special outfitter that added thousands to the already steep price of a G. Though it’s not explicitly said in the film, this version is an AMG G-Class that has 563 horsepower from a 5.5-liter V8. While it may have been good at getting through the island, it couldn’t do it for too long as its EPA estimated fuel mileage was just 12 mpg in the city for the regular four-wheeled 4×4.

The new Jeep Wrangler 4xe from Jurassic World Dominion

The new "Jurassic Dominion" film will feature plenty of Jeeps, including the Wrangler Rubicon 4xe.

While it’s not as iconic, yet, as the original Wrangler, we’re expecting you’ll see silver and blue 4xe Wranglers around soon. Jeep created a cute baby Carnotaurus to be the star of the commercials for a new campaign that shows off the Wrangler from the new Jurassic World Dominion. The film is in theatres now. The new Wrangler 4xe is the plug-in hybrid version of the Wrangler that can be seen alongside many other Jeeps in the new film.
