The Most Powerful SUVs on the Market in 2019
Sports utility vehicles are one of the most popular car body types in the U.S. A balance of power and practicality, these cars give drivers the performance of sports cars without the cramped interiors. When it comes to sheer power, few vehicles can compete with these luxury SUVs. Here are the most powerful SUVs in 2019, according to Car and Driver.
5. Mercedes-AMG G 63
With a 4.0-liter 577-hp V8, the AMG G 63 is Mercedes-AMG’s most powerful SUV. Starting at $147,500, the G 63 can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds. Unfortunately, Mercedes-AMG electronically limits the G 63’s top speed to about 136 miles per hour. However, buying the AMG Driver’s Package can bump it up to 149 miles per hour.
4. Maserati Levante Trofeo
Armed with a 3.8-liter 590-hp V8, the Levante Trofeo is not only one of the most powerful SUVs, but it’s also one of the fastest. According to Car and Driver, the Levante Trofeo can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds, and it has a top speed of 187 miles per hour. This incredible power will cost prospective drivers about $171,500.
3. Bentley Bentayga Speed
Setting drivers back about $230,000, the Bentayga Speed is the fastest production SUV in the world, according to Bentley. Its aerodynamic frame lets the potent 6.0-liter 626-hp W12 engine really shine. Bentley claims this SUV can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds. Its top speed, 190 miles per hour, beats the Levante Trofeo’s.
2. Lamborghini Urus
Famous for its super-fast supercars, Lamborghini’s latest SUV has a 4.0-liter V8 engine that delivers 641 hp. Not to be outdone by Bentley, Lamborghini claims the Urus is also one of the world’s fastest production SUVs. Car and Driver says it can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds, making it the fastest accelerating non-electric SUV in the world.
According to Top Speed, the Urus can also reach 190 miles per hour, tying with the Bentayga Speed. Taming all that power will cost drivers north of $200,000 for the base package. However, Lamborghini announced it will cap its annual production of Urus.
1. Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk
The most powerful SUV on the market is a Jeep. It earns its place with a staggeringly powerful 6.2-liter 707-hp V8 monster of an engine lifted straight from a Dodge Hellcat. That Hellcat engine can push the Trackhawk from 0 to 60 miles per hour in a mere 3.5 seconds. It can also reach a max speed of 180 miles per hour.
Unlike the other SUVs on this list, the Trackhawk is relatively affordable, starting at about $87,695. That said, the Trackhawk is still a luxury SUV with similar features and amenities as the other SUVs on this list.
