Honda may have had a few less than stellar model years, but it’s still one of the most reliable brands. Overall, Hondas stand out for their engaging driving dynamics and efficiency. But you might be wondering: what are the most reliable Honda cars? 

Consumer Reports recently updated its list of the most reliable carmakers, and Honda comes in at no. 5. This is a notable improvement compared to last year. CR’s data shows that most Hondas are dependable, but a few shine more than others. All the models on the list have above-average reliability ratings. 

The Honda HR-V has the highest reliability score 

Ironically the most reliable Honda by CR’s measures doesn’t live up to the brand’s signature performance. As with the outgoing model, the 2021 Honda HR-V  comes with a 141-hp four-cylinder and a continuously variable automatic (CVT). The main complaint about the HR-V is that its engine feels sluggish. You might also feel it’s a tad stiff.

One of the best aspects of the HR-V is its fuel-efficiency. It’s also available with front- or all-wheel drive. Another highlight is that the HR-V’s cabin is roomy. But you have to upgrade to get the latest infotainment and active safety features. 

The Honda Insight is super eco-friendly 

CR recognizes the Insight as its ‘fuel economy’ champ. The Insight is easy to overlook, but this hybrid deserves more attention. This Honda sedan can get up to 54 mpg overall, which is 2 mpg than what the Toyota Prius delivers.

The Insight will give you a teensy bit more power than the HR-V can. But the Insight still isn’t what we would call quick. It features a 1.5-liter four-cylinder and an electric motor, which generate 151-hp. Along with its eco-friendliness, the Insight also impresses with its standard active safety features. 

The Honda Clarity is another fuel-efficient alternative 

You might also be interested in the Clarity lineup if your priorities are eco-friendliness. Honda recently canceled the Clarity EV model, but two other variants are still around. There’s the standard Clarity plug-in hybrid model that’s widely available. If you live in California, you can lease the hydrogen-powered version.

The CR-V is Honda’s best-seller

Most critics say that the CR-V does just about everything well. The CR-V is enjoyable to drive and offers lots of utility in a relatively small package. Currently, U.S. News says that CR-V is the best compact SUV you can buy right now. The regular CR-V comes with a 190-hp four-cylinder and a CVT. It provides plenty of power, and it’s efficient too.

This Honda is also available as a hybrid. CR especially recognizes the CR-V for its well-insulated cabin and generous space for five. Our biggest complaint about the CR-V is that its infotainment offerings are still behind for the class. 

The Honda Ridgeline easily outshines its rivals 

Honda’s Ridgeline shows that being different can pay off. Unlike many of its competitors, the Ridgeline is a compact pickup that has a luxury-like ride quality. All Ridgelines come with a 280-hp, 3.5-liter V6, and a nine-speed automatic. On the inside, the Ridgeline pleases with its high-quality materials. It’s also one of the few Hondas that comes standard with Apple CarPlay Android Auto.
