When we think of the most reliable cars, one brand consistently comes to mind, and that’s Toyota. This Japanese-based carmaker has a lineup of comfortable and adventurous vehicles. But which Toyotas are the most reliable of them all?
We’ve created a list of the most reliable Toyota vehicles for 2021 based on ratings from Consumer Reports. CR’s ratings reflect how well a car has held up and the likelihood that you’ll experience inconvenient repairs. All the Toyotas on this list have a five out of five predicted reliability rating from CR.
2021 Toyota Prius
The 2021 Prius is at the top of the most reliable Toyotas, and it also earned CR’s top dependability score out of all the vehicles the team tested. This hybridized hatchback gets flack for its quirky sense of style, and some road testers wish it had more power. Even so, the Prius’ practicality and eco-friendliness have garnered many fans.
In CR’s road test, the Prius returned 52 mpg overall, which is incredible. On top of its fuel efficiency, the Prius also satisfies its roomy cabin, large cargo area, and generous in-car tech.
2021 Toyota Corolla
You may gravitate toward Toyota’s Corolla if you want a small and efficient car but don’t necessarily want a hybrid. The Corolla is still one of the world’s best-selling vehicles because of its smooth ride quality and easy nature. But it doesn’t provide the same level of driving engagement that its rival, the Honda Civic, has.
The 2021 Corolla comes with a 139-hp, 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. For more juice, you may want to consider the Corolla’s more powerful 169-hp, four-cylinder on the SE and XSE trims. Some of the biggest news for 2021 is the Corolla is now standard with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
2021 Toyota Prius Prime
The Prius Prime is the plug-in version of the regular Prus. The two models operate very much alike and boast many modern features. However, the Prius allows you to drive up to 25 miles solely on electricity. The Prime takes two hours to charge with a 240-volt connector; the regular 120-volt takes five hours to charge.
2021 Toyota Camry
Like many other reviewers, we have a lot of love for the Camry. Yes, it seems like everyone has one, but there’s a reason why. The Camry provides a cushioned ride that many competitors still can’t match. And of course, the Camry is still one of the most reliable cars on the road today. CR especially likes the current generation of the Camry because of its improved handling and easier-to-use controls.
2021 Toyota 4Runner
The 4Runner is one of the more polarizing Toyota vehicles, especially compared to family members like the Camry. As CR highlights, the 4Runner falls short of most modern SUVs due to its jitteriness on-road and its clumsy handling. However, the 4Runner continues to impress with its long-term predictability. Plus, it’s one of the few SUVs that can hold its own against the Jeep Wrangler when it comes to off-roading.
