Sometimes, the things people will do to a gorgeous car are downright heartbreaking. When the mod involves a stunning piece of machinery like the Chevy Corvette it can make you want to cry, unless of course, you can see a method to the madness. C4 Corvette fans won’t believe what’s become of one 1984 model. It could be the most ridiculous Corvette you’ll ever see, and it’s actually not alone.

The C4 Corvette is a legend among fans

The Chevy C4 Corvette was made from 1983 to 1996. At the time of its release, the C4 Corvette’s wedge-shaped design was something very new and exciting. However, for many years it only put out 250 hp, so it earned a reputation as a low-performing model of Corvette. However, when the 1990s rolled around, the ZR-1 C4 model changed all that. It wound up delivering 475 hp and zoomed from zero to 60 MPH in 4.4 seconds. The LT-1 was also added – a V8 model that also was given new exterior and interior styling.

It was 1953 when the very first concept Corvette was put on display at an auto show in New York, and it created quite a buzz. GM began production of the Corvette that year in Flint, Michigan just outside of Detroit. The first Corvette models featured small-block V8s, sculpted sides, and exposed headlamps. In 1968, it was totally restyled and sported the world’s first “T-top”, removable roof panels that the Corvette became famous for.

The latest Corvette is all-new in 2020. The Stingray convertible has been totally redesigned from the ground up, with any remnants of the C4’s design cues long gone. The C8 is a re-sculpted, mid-engine sports car that makes a real statement, with a first-ever production retractable hardtop. It retracts seamlessly into the rear of the car even at speeds up to 30 miles per hour, and it is extremely lightweight to improve performance.

It also has a slightly new engine placement that drives more power to the rear wheels when it’s needed most. Another notable feature for 2020 is expanded cargo space in the front compartment, which is now large enough to hold the removable roof panel or two golf bags.

This particular C4 probably shouldn’t exist

You can say a lot about how great Corvettes are, both in the past and today. However, the Georgia owner of one 1984 Chevy C4 Corvette decided it was time to make a change. Road and Track spotted the beast he created for sale on Facebook Marketplace, and it doesn’t look like any Corvette they’ve ever seen before.

Some people believe the C4 Corvette is not the most gorgeous of vehicles, but this one took that concept to a whole different level. The seller claimed the stripped-down ‘Vette was street legal, but you’d probably have a rough time trying to register it in most states. The go-kart version of the C4 features an automatic transmission, no doors, and the gas-tank dubiously strapped down in the rear compartment. 

Believe it or not, this isn’t the first person who has decided to turn a Chevy Corvette into an off-road go-kart. Enthusiasts regularly attend races like The Gambler 500 and Moab, where Corvette go-karts always attract plenty of attention. There was even a Corvette go-kart for sale on eBay with 500 hp, no windshield, and weighing only 2,182 pounds. We don’t even want to think about where that combination could lead. While Chevy C4 Corvettes are always a sight to behold, you’re not going to be seeing any of these tricked out go-carts versions on the regular road anytime soon.
