The Ford Mustang is one of the most popular options for a true American muscle car. There are so many trim levels that you can find one to fit almost any driving style or lifestyle. In fact, for a sports car, the Mustang is pretty versatile, so it is understandable why so many people choose it as their daily driver. The downside is that they are unfortunately common, which can be a good thing if you’re looking for parts and aftermarket support, and a bad thing if you want to stand out. If you still have that love of the Mustang but want something that’s even more unique than the GT 500, the RTR will leave you smiling.

A versatile sports car

The base model Ford Mustang is, in itself, a very versatile car. Its large front seats accommodate taller drivers in a way other sports cars like the Lotus Elise don’t. It also has something important that most other sports cars don’t have, which would be usable back seat space. Add in a decent amount of cargo capacity in the trunk, and this is easily one of the best sporty options for your daily commute. The RTR package doesn’t take away any of these features, either, which is just as important to note as it is to mention what the package provides.

The Ford Mustang RTR

The RTR following the Ford Mustang might look a little odd, and it’s far from their normal nomenclature for explaining what the difference is. Van Halen fans can appreciate what RTR stands for: it means Ready to Rock, and that’s exactly what this car is. It is based on a collaboration between Ford and RTR Vehicles, making it an official OEM-installed package that you can buy — no need to worry about voiding any warranties. At its core, the Mustang RTR is a performance-oriented sports car, more so than the average base models.

What the RTR package offers

Cosmetically, the RTR package adds to the Mustang’s already aggressive appearance. Over several different series of the package that might include anything from a front splitter, rocker panels, rear spoiler, rear diffuser, and the addition of several other body panel enhancers.

From a mechanical point of view, the RTR is much more. The adjustable suspension can be modified for any driving style. Casual backroads to enjoy the fall weather or spending a day at the track are all possible with a few adjustments. There are different levels of modification for performance ranging from mild tuning to an upgraded supercharger, all at the discretion of the owner.

The Ford Mustang RTR package is not yet available for the newest Mustangs, but we sure hope that it will be. While we will always love the supercar killer that is the GT 500 it is exciting to see a customizable performance and cosmetic package that owners can use to make their sports car even more personalized to their own driving style.
