Speculation is running rampant about the updated 2025 Toyota Camry. We know we’re getting a new 2025 Camry that will likely aim to dethrone the Tesla Model Y as the world’s best-selling car. Some new spy images are intriguing and point to a styling direction, one inspired by the new Toyota Crown. The competition has closed in on the Camry, and a new one will have to be even better.

Will the Toyota Camry be redesigned in 2024?

We know that Toyota’s engineers are working on an all-new 2025 Camry. We expect the new car to debut sometime next spring. Any updates to the Camry are big news as it’s Toyota’s top-selling car and one of the best-selling cars in the world. But, the current car has been on sale since 2017 and it’s starting to look dated compared to its competitors.

When it comes to the Camry’s competition, the Honda Accord, and Kia K5 both saw recent updates.  The Subaru Legacy and Hyundai Sonata are both expected to get updates soon, too. All of these cars are now hyper capable sedans that carry five adults in near-luxury comfort, while seeing stellar gas mileage numbers.

When was the Honda Accord updated?

The Honda Accord, the Camry’s chief rival, saw a complete redesign for the 2023 model year. It’s not a perfect redesign, but the Accord has continued to build on its decades-long reputation. The new car leans heavily on hybrid power, with four of the five trims coming only in hybrid trim. Only the base EX version has a gasoline engine.

The new Accord Hybrid trims come with a 204-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder. That’s enough for the Accord to keep up with traffic, and get some incredible gas mileage figures of 51 in the city and 48 on the highway. Inside, the new interior looks much more modern and sporty with an optional 12.3 inch touchscreen setting off the dash. Look for the new Camry to match, or beat, many of the Accord’s features and options.

Will the new Toyota Camry be bigger?

In the images on Car and Driver, we can only see a highly-camouflaged car. In profile, it has what appears to be a liftback or hatchback design. Like the new Toyota Crown, or even … gasp … an Accord. While most of us would have said “Gimme’ a trunk!” just a few years ago, it seems like Tesla’s Model S with its liftback idea has caught on and many are now tuning to the design. It makes sense because it opens up much more room for stuff in the back.

The spy images don’t show much context to show how tall the new 2025 Toyota Camry is. But, if it does copy some of the Crown’s styling elements, we’d expect it to be taller, too. The Crown has near-SUV proportions, with a high driving position and styling that hints at a crossover.

All of these changes will matter. The Camry was dethroned as the best-selling car in 2023 as Tesla’s Model Y is now the best-selling car in the U.S.
