The New Apple Car Patent Looks an Awful Lot Like the Tesla Cybertruck
If you’ve been paying attention to Apple’s patents – and there are a lot to pay attention to – then you might be wondering if they filed a patent for the Tesla Cybertruck. Yet the concept Apple Car is its own entity, and it just might be a worthy competitor to the Tesla Cybertruck. What’s in Apple’s new patent, and how does it compare to what Tesla is doing with the Cybertruck?
Apple’s new patent shows a vehicle that looks a lot like the Tesla Cybertruck
Apple hasn’t revealed any images related to their new patent yet, but that hasn’t stopped others from doing so. According to WCCF Tech, a company called Vanarama has taken to rendering Apple’s new patent into a concept car visual. It has the same angular structure as the Tesla Cybertruck, and the same modern appeal. One of the biggest differences is the grill, which has an almost Cadillac Escalade quality to it.
In other ways, Apple’s new patent depicts a vehicle that looks a bit like Apple’s products, which is probably to be expected. WCCF Tech notes that the Apple Car’s glowing logo on the front resembles that of the Mac Book Pro.
The Apple Car interior is also somewhat Cybertruck-esque
Like the Tesla Cybertruck, the Apple Car will be on the cutting edge of technology. One advantage that Apple has over Tesla is its digital technology. While Teslas generally come with a touchscreen infotainment screen, Apple’s new patent shows a screen that will extend along the width of the Apple Car. You should be able to customize the Apple Car’s controls to be wherever you want, making it easier (and safer) to drive. Apple’s patent also includes a Siri designed for the Apple Car, which will go over especially well with those who are Siri-dependent.
This is somewhat similar to the Cybertruck. According to Tesla’s patent, Cybertruck technology would be able to determine whether the driver or passenger was the person interacting with it. This would likely be done with internal cameras, which Tesla is already using. If the Cybertruck determined that the passenger instead of the driver was attempting to interact with it, it would have the capability to switch buttons to the other side of the car.
The Cybertruck has some cool features we’d love to see in the Apple Car
Tesla’s patent for the Cybertruck detailed some new and exciting technology that hasn’t been seen in any other vehicles yet. While there’s no word on anything comparable in Apple’s new patent, technology companies tend to move in the same direction.
For starters, since the Cybertruck will know where the driver and passenger are, it will adjust mirrors to exactly the right height. The Cybertruck may be able to learn vehicle passengers and save their preferred settings, like air conditioning, mirrors and the steering wheel height.
There’s nothing definitive about Apple’s new patent. Right now, all it is is a potential design. Whether Apple makes this patent into reality remains to be seen. Of course, much of the Apple Car would probably change in between design and production as well, so we’ll have to wait and see just how much of Apple’s new patent becomes fruition.
