Chevrolet teased us with the release of a mid-engine Corvette for years, and when the C8 was finally released, we were anything but disappointed. A 6.2L LT2 V8 already packed a punch of 495hp and no one is yet to complain about power.

Most of the complaints about the car have been in regard to the lack of a manual transmission option, and while we really disappointed to find out our beloved classic wouldn’t come with a stick shift it wasn’t all that surprising. Overall, Corvette enthusiasts had a lot of positive things to say about the new C8.

What is also not surprising to us was that the automotive innovator, tuner and builder John Hennessey got his hands on a new Corvette C8 and somehow managed to make it even better. But how did John Hennessey manage to improve upon an already great car? There is only one obvious answer: twin turbochargers.

That’s right, the creator of the Hennessey Venom GT just upped the Corvette C8 game, ramping up the car’s performance and horsepower.

The delicious and aggressive roar of the LT2 motor paired with the spool of the twin turbochargers makes this car sound harmonic, but the turbochargers serve more than audio enhancement. John Hennessey claims that the twin turbochargers increase the horsepower by 200hp on regular high octane pump gas, and with the additional upgrades they intend on completing the company claims they will be pushing the C8 over 1000hp, and estimate that 800hp will make it to the wheels.

Until they hit the dyno, we can only speculate how powerful John Hennessey can make the new Corvette C8, their history with the Corvette C7 ZR1 we can expect that John Hennessey and his team will live up to our high expectations. The ZR1 had three levels of upgrades, pushing the C7 up to 800hp or as high as an incredible 1200hp.

Hennessey hasn’t dropped any hints to if they are going to complete any cosmetic work to the C8, or if they intend on adding any more aerodynamic features like a large spoiler or canards, but with the increase in horsepower, it might become necessary or ideal. We also have no idea how much the upgrades to the Corvette might set owners back in way of cost, but the dramatic increase and power and performance will certainly be worth it to some owners.

John Hennessey is known for making already great cars even greater, and we are excited to see where his work with the new Corvette C8 takes him, and the horsepower the car can be pushed to produce. Did the new Corvette C8 just get better?
