The New Rolls-Royce is So Quiet it Will Make You Sick
We measure the luxury of a car by how quiet the cabin is. The more quiet the cabin is, typically, the more luxurious the car. On the other hand, the louder the car is lower the quality of the build materials. For a vehicle designed to be the most luxurious you can buy on the market, the new Rolls-Royce was designed to be absolutely void of any road noise. While that sounds ideal for many, drivers of the first few cars weren’t so thrilled. In fact, the lack of noise made them sick.
Motion sickness in cars
As one of the most expensive luxury cars in the world, the last thing you would expect from your $300,000 Rolls-Royce Ghost is for your comfortable ride to be ruined by the sound of road noise. On the other hand, owners of the vehicle have learned that not having any noise can be disoriented, causing some passengers to feel motion sick. Throwing up in a Rolls-Royce? Not on my list of things to do.
The Rolls-Royce Ghost
The Rolls-Royce Ghost is an elite luxury car, pricing around $300,000. The brand is well known for offering some of the most unique and iconic features you can get in a car. From starlight headliner to customized champagne flutes, riding in a Rolls-Royce is like sitting in the world’s nicest VIP lounge. It is easy to understand why the engineering team aimed to make the cabin completely silent. They were probably disappointed with how disoriented passengers were getting because of the quiet.
The solution was simple
The solution to the problem was pretty simple for Rolls-Royce. All they had to do was produce noise inside of the car’s cabin to make it feel more authentic to a car. Rather than remove the luxurious sound-proofing and insulation, audio engineers developed noises that could be adjusted to give just the right amount of noise and no more. The quiet lullaby of the artificial noises helped to ease driver and passenger nausea without compromising the quality of the car, and current owners seem to be pleased with the solution.
The problem has since been resolved, and owners of the incredibly expensive Rolls-Royce Ghost no longer need to worry about getting motion sick in their own cars. Who would have ever anticipated having too much luxury would be a bad thing? Getting motion sick isn’t ideal, but we can’t imagine what the bill is for having this car detailed after you do…
