This truck is the first salvo it’s launching to take on the overlanding world with a whole line of Trailhunter accessories. This Tundra Trailhunter concept shows some possibilities.

According to the company, Toyota is planning to offer purpose-built trucks and SUVs under the Trailhunter name. They are for outdoor enthusiasts who long for off-the-grid expeditions. Trailhunter will serve as a flagship to inspire modifications of Toyota trucks with new accessories. We say, “Sign us up.” The new concept explains the new Trailhunter trademark the company filed last year.

According to the company, Toyota is planning to offer purpose-built trucks and SUVs under the Trailhunter name to outdoor enthusiasts who long for off-the-grid expeditions. Trailhunter will serve as a flagship offering to inspire and support modifications of Toyota trucks with Toyota Genuine or Associated Accessory Products equipment across the lineup. We say, “Sign us up.”

“Trailhunter trucks will come straight from the factory equipped to meet the needs of overlanding enthusiasts,” said Lisa Materazzo, group vice president for Toyota Division Marketing said in a news release. “These trucks will be developed in-house by our engineering teams and will be the most capable OEM overlanding solutions designed to meet Toyota’s legendary quality, durability and reliability standards.”

What is the new Toyota Tundra Trailhunter truck?

The Tundra Trailhunter concept vehicle showcases Toyota’s vision of what this new grade could look like right off the lot, Toyota said. The concept truck on display at the 2022 SEMA Show was equipped with a Trailhunter-specific suspension setup, skid plates, roof rack, bumpers, lighting, refrigerator, rooftop tent and more all engineered specifically for overlanding applications. GearPatrol noted that the accessories will also be available for SUVs, presumably like the new Sequoia.

Toyota designed the Trailhunter to be versatile and add storage, and key to overlanding, more payload capacity. Overlander folks generally build out their trucks with homes in the back so they can spend weeks in the wilderness.

What is Toyota’s Associated Accessory Program?

At the 2022 SEMA Show, Toyota also announced the new Associated Accessory Program, which offfers Toyota-approved accessories. AAP will offer parts, components, and accessories from many of Toyota’s partners. Toyota offers some aftermarket parts and accessories, like a new lift kit, but AAP should build on that. The goal is to make it easier for customers to personalize their trucks. As a bonus, you can even finance them with a new truck purchase.
