The Mercedes Benz S-Class exhibits extravagance in every way. And what’s truly impressive is that Mercedes finds a way to make the S-Class even more indulgent with each new generation. Recently, Mercedes revealed the insane luxurious tech on the 2021 S-Class, which includes the latest MBUX infotainment system and 3D technology. Along with the impressive infotainment, Mercedes also shared that the new S-Class takes advanced safety to the next level.

The 2021 S-Class is all about safety and enjoyment 

State-of-the-art technology has always been a highlight of the S-Class. But for 2021, Mercedes wants to make driving its flagship sedan even safer and more enjoyable. The newest S-Class will introduce a host of new safety functions that complement the new MBUX infotainment system’s offerings. Mercedes will officially unveil this new model in September.

To make the S more comfortable to drive, Mercedes specifically sought to make this luxury model similar to how a compact car operates. To accomplish this, the German automaker added all-wheel steering plus rear-axle steering. Rear-axle steering helps drivers to better handle different scenarios on the road. 

“The rear-axle steering makes the S-Class as maneuverable as a compact car. Even for the S-Class with a long wheelbase, the turning radius is reduced to under 36 feet. And thanks to Active Parking Assist with 360 camera, the vehicle can fit into tight parking spaces while monitoring whether anybody is moving within that space. When leaving a space, the S-Class keeps a wary eye out for crossing traffic.”

New Pre-Safe function and rear-seat airbags 

Mercedes also announced its new Pre-Safe Impulse Side functionality on the new S. Pre-Safe works to recognize a potential side-impact and raise the vehicle before a crash can happen. This functionality works with Mercedes’ optional E-Active Body Control system. The E-Active Body Control system is already available on Mercedes’  GLE SUV.

Another all-new safety feature available on the S-Class is rear-seat airbags. With rear-seat airbags, passengers in the back now have the same protection as those riding in front. The new airbags are part of the Executive Rear Seat Package.

The rear airbag with an innovative, tubular structure is unique, allowing it to deploy in a gentle manner. Naturally the passengers should continue to fasten their seatbelts, and now with the new, illuminated-design belt buckles, putting on seatbelts is now even more intuitive.”

Standard driver-assist features are improved too

The 2021 S-Class will also improve upon the numerous driver assistance features on the 2020 model. Mercedes says that the new features are designed to minimize drivers’ anxiety in everyday situations. A parking package with a 360-degree camera helps identify lined parking spaces and allows drivers to park and unpark the vehicle. Additionally, Mercedes update the S’s active blind spot assist so that it now warns front passengers when a hand touches the door handle.
