The camper van world is one of many shapes, sizes, and configurations. It is a truly unique segment of the automotive world because of the function of the vehicle. They are as much a house as they are a vehicle. With that comes a wide range of needs that vary from person to person. The smaller, more manageable platforms have become more popular lately as the trend has grown. The EV side of adventure vehicles makes this segment extra interesting, like the Rivian R1T. Nissan is here to capitalize with the new cute camper van, the Nissan e-NV200 concept specifically for winter travel.

What is the Nissan e-NV200 concept camper van?

As the folks at Expedition Portal say, the NV200 cargo van has been around for a long time and has gone largely unnoticed. This winter concept camper van is meant to show the versatility and range of this little van. 

Not only is Nissan trying to hard-sell this van to more adventure-minded people, but it also wants to show the capabilities of its emissions-free electric platform. Granted, this is only a concept, not a production vehicle, but it is not the only e-camper concept. A trend is forming that suggests that there will be a viable market for these eco-friendly campers soon.  

What features does this camper van concept have? 

This winter camper is built around the Nissan Camper Technology Luxury Kit; this is a tech and hardware suite that is all about living comfortably off the grid. The suite has a solar-rechargeable 220-volt power pack, a fully integrated kitchen, fridge, folding beds, and insulated windows. EP notes that it failed to provide a fuel-fed, forced-hot-air heater for all the things this camper does have. For something designed for winter, this is a strange oversight. 

How is the e-NV200 set up for winter driving?

The new camper van is set up with bigger off-road tires and a bull bar with mounted auxiliary lights to see through the wintery conditions. Although it looks extra capable, the Nissan doesn’t mention new driving modes or locking differentials, or anything that may help in the snow and ice. 

There are more off-road accessories, though. Nissan fitted the cute camper van with mud flaps, door-entry guards, sidebars, and rubber mats. The accessories are super cool, and like any good overlander, I love accessories, but it feels a little more dressed up than prepared. The hard work doesn’t seem to have been done yet, like building a 4×4 drive system for the snow, upgraded suspension, or skid plates. These are kind of overlanding 101 upgrades. To be fair, it is only a concept, so maybe if it comes to production, at some point, Nissan will finish the job. 

What is the future of Nissan?

This vision, and the innovative set of accessories available with the standard e-NV200 models, will get drivers and outdoor enthusiasts alike excited for the adventures we’re all craving in the future.”

I love seeing any innovative camper van that has its eyes on the future. EV adventure vehicles aren’t quite here yet, but I get the feeling they are coming.
