The Peugeot Landtrek Is Teasing Truck Lovers in the United States

As the Tesla Cybertruck showed, Americans just love trucks, and that includes electric trucks. As the Tesla Cybertruck showed, Americans just love trucks, and that includes electric trucks. This truck-loving trend is spreading around the world too, and automakers like Honda and Hyundai have all started making their own trucks. Now, the French automaker Peugeot is getting in on the action, and the result is the new Peugeot Landtrek

The Peugeot Landtrek is actually a French-Chinese truck

As Motor1 explained, the Landtrek is actually based on a Chinese truck. It’s based on the Changan Kaicheng F70 pickup truck, but Motor1 says that it’s been significantly modified by Peugeot. So, while it’s based on a Chinese truck design, it’s also a very French truck as well.

Peugeot did a great job making the Landtrek look great, both on the outside and on the inside. Not only does the Landtrek have a sleek exterior design, but it also has a pretty lavish interior as well. One of the fancier trims of the Landtrek has a 10-inch touchscreen among other things.

On top of that, the Landtrek, like many other trucks, has a lot of options for owners to choose from. There are options for a single cab or a double cab, a gasoline engine or a diesel engine, many different truck bed sizes, and more. The gas engine is a 2.4-liter that generates 210 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque while the diesel engine is a 1.9-liter that generates 150 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.

Motor1 says that the Landtrek can handle a payload of up to 2,400 lbs and it can tow up to 6,000 lbs of cargo. Peugeot also has other standard features on the Landtrek, and that includes a trailer swing control system, a hill descent control system, and a lane departure warning system. Despite its cool design and its good specs, the Landtrek does have a pretty big flaw.

The Peugeot Landtrek won’t be available in the U.S.

As Motor1 reported, the Landtrek, like any other Peugeot car, won’t be available in the U.S. To be fair, that’s not the Landtrek’s fault, as Peugeot simply doesn’t sell its cars in the U.S. Furthermore, France, Peugeot’s home country, also won’t be getting the Landtrek.

In fact, as Motor1 said, Peugeot will only be selling the Landtrek in Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa. As a result, the Landtrek will be priced according to those markets. That said, while the Landtrek won’t be sold in America right now, not all hope is lost.

Will the Landtrek ever be available in the U.S.?

One of the reasons why great cars and trucks that are available in other countries aren’t available in the U.S. is because the U.S. has a lot of rules and regulations that make it difficult or not financially smart to sell those cars in the U.S. This makes it easier for American automakers to compete with foreign automakers, and it also makes it smart for foreign automakers to start factories in the U.S. instead.

Furthermore, America’s safety laws are different than the safety laws in other countries. Some foreign cars aren’t sold in the U.S. because they don’t currently meet America’s standards. However, in the case of Peugeot, that will change.

As Industry Week reported, after leaving the U.S. market about 25 years ago, Peugeot has announced that it will return to the U.S. market soon. Peugeot has already started making versions of its cars that will meet U.S. regulations. That said, Industry Week says that Peugeot will be importing its cars to America rather than making them in the U.S.

Industry Week doesn’t mention anything about the Landtrek coming to the U.S., but if Peugeot becomes popular in the U.S., then the Landtrek may come over as well.
