The Porsche Panamera 4S Beats The Audi A7 In Performance
Sportscar lovers are always on the search to find a great car that you can daily drive with some comfort and practicality, and there aren’t a lot of options out there. BMW fanatics have the M3 which can be tuned for great performance at the sacrifice of your comfort. The Porsche Panamera 4S, however, offers great performance in the shape of a sporty, luxury sedan, and it even beats its direct competition, the family-friendly Audi A7.
The 2020 Porsche Panamera 4 has a starting price that is significantly higher than the Audi A7, with a sticker price of $105,000 in comparison to the much lower base model price of $69,000 that you can buy a new A7 for.
The Panamera’s performance
Under the hood, the Panamera 4 has a twin-turbocharged V6 that offers 440hp from the engine, a whopping 100hp more than the 335hp in the similar V6 engine of the Audi A7. That power is delivered by the car’s all-wheel-drive system when you upgrade to the 4S, while the A7 has all-wheel drive standard across all models.
While both the A7 and the Panamera 4S offer all-wheel drive, the Panamera 4S offers more torque to deliver its already greater amount of power. The A7 boasts a decent 369 lb-ft of torque, which thanks to computerized control of the turbochargers is delivered at lower RPMs to make it pretty quick from a complete stop. The Panamera 4S, however, has 405 lb-ft of torque, and while it doesn’t seem like much more than the A7 it does make a pretty significant difference in performance.
The Panamera 4S is also significantly heavier, but weighing in at 5,501 this four-door sedan has an unexpectedly fast top speed of almost 180mph. In comparison, the Audi A7 can only go 130mph and weighs more than a thousand pounds less, with a curb weight of just 4,332lbs.
When comparing some more useful numbers, the Panamera 4S has a faster 0 – 60mph time, where tests have shown it to perform a consistent 4.2 seconds 0 – 60 time. This is an entire second faster than the Audi A7 which has only reported a 5.2 second 0 – 60. That is only the reported tests from the manufacturers themselves, but some private testing has shown the Panamera 4S to complete a 0 – 60mph run in a reported 3.6 seconds.
Overall the Audi A7 and the Porsche Panamera 4S are great cars. Their sleek and aggressive exterior styling makes them stand out from the four-door sedan competition upon first glance. Their luxurious interiors lined with high-end materials and a wide array of safety features and tech options make them a car worth considering for your daily commute. For such a significantly higher price tag, we aren’t disappointed that the Panamera 4S has better performance, and if that’s what you’re looking for, it might just be the car for you.
