When it comes to the perfect work van or camping van, it’s essential to pick the best van. The Ram Promaster and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter are both great options that could make deciding which van to buy difficult. So, let’s compare the 2023 Ram Promaster and Mercedes Sprinter specs to determine which option is better.

Ram Promaster vs. Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

This battle between vans begins with a bit of a breakup. Dodge used to assemble Sprinters for a little while Mercedes had a contract with Dodge. But this was only until 2008.

During that time, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans had Dodge badges stamped on them. Now both automakers are doing their own things with their vans.

To get started in the 2023 Ram Promaster cargo van, you’ll need to spend about $48,965 which is around the price that nicer minivans begin around. The 2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter starts at around $43,500, making it the more affordable option when it comes to entry-level models.

Does the Promaster or Sprinter have more power?

The Ram Promaster comes with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that offers 280 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. It can tow up to 6,910 lb and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 8.1 seconds. This isn’t that fast, but for a tall van, it’s not slow, either.

The Mercedes Sprinter cargo van has two engine options. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine provides 188 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.

It’s probably worth the extra price to upgrade to the 3.0-liter V6 turbo-diesel engine for 188 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. The high-output model cranks out 208 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque.

Depending on the build you choose, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter can tow between 5,000 to 7,500 lb. It also takes the sprinter 10.7 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph. But if you have a van full of cargo, you probably aren’t trying to floor it quickly.

One major victory that the 2023 Mercedes Sprinter has over the Ram Promaster is the fact that it’s available with four-wheel drive. This optional feature will make it much easier to drive through slippery conditions such as snow or mud. Although, the Promaster has trailer sway control and electronic stability control.

The Mercedes Sprinter comes with a standard 144” in height, but you can upgrade to the 170” tall version. The Ram Promaster comes with a standard height of 118”, but you can upgrade to the 159” tall version.

For campers, the Ram Promaster is a little wider, making it easier to sleep in. However, the Mercedes Sprinter has more power for mountain roads. The Ram Promaster also offers more versatile seat configurations.

The Ram Promaster offers 259 to 439 cubic feet of cargo space. The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter offers up to 319 cubic feet of cargo space, making the Ram Promaster roomier for storage unless you need to haul taller items.

Also, the Ram Promaster has the best-in-class turning radius, making it easier to maneuver in tight spaces. The backup camera with park assist also helps you remain in control. You can add a heads-up display and security alarm to the Mercedes Sprinter, though.

This is a tough call between vans, but you will save more with the Ram Promaster. It also seems more accessible and more spacious for cargo needs. However, if you want the diesel engine and possibly a little more luxury, then go with the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
