The Ridiculously Fast Lamborghini Urus Can Be Modified for Even More Speed
Lamborghini is known for making some of the world’s fastest and most exclusive cars. And so, when Lamborghini turned its gears toward the SUV market, it released the Urus, one of the most powerful and fastest SUVs on the market. But for some, the 641-hp that its 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 delivered wasn’t enough, and now, it can have even more.
A modified Lamborghini Urus
As Car and Driver reported, a car shop in California called Kar Tunz is responsible for modifying the Urus to get the most out of its engine. This isn’t a heavily modified Urus, either.
As Car and Driver said, Kar Tunz didn’t change a thing in terms of the Urus’ hardware. Kar Tunz simply tuned the Urus up so that it got the most horsepower out of its engine.
Car and Driver says that with Kar Tunz’s tuning, the Urus’ 4.0-liter V8 could generate at least 725-hp. However, Kar Tunz says that, due to how horsepower is measured, 725-hp is actually the worst-case scenario. Kar Tunz estimates that this modified Urus could get almost 800-hp in ideal conditions. That’s over 150-hp more than the standard Urus.
The same Lamborghini Urus, but faster
While this modified Urus has some differences from the regular Urus that celebrities and other rich folks have, much of it is the same. As Car and Driver said, other than the engine modifications, Kar Tunz added gold wheels, a new exhaust system, as well as a radar and laser detection system among other more skin deep modifications.
Other than those changes, which Car and Driver says will void your warranty, the Urus still handles like the regular Urus does. And the regular Urus handles really well as is. Overall, these modifications cost Kar Tunz almost $280,000. For comparison, the regular Urus cost $240,000, according to Car and Driver.
That said, this modified Urus’ over 700-hp engine is the main attraction, and Car and Driver says that it was well worth the price of admission. It accelerated from 0 to 60 MPH in just 2.7 seconds, making it the fastest SUV that Car and Driver has ever tested. This time was half a second faster than the regular Urus, according to Car and Driver.
But on top of that, this 0 to 60 time was actually faster than some actual sports cars. Car and Driver says that this modified Urus will beat a Porsche 911 and a brand-new Chevy C8 Corvette in a drag race, all the meanwhile being a 5,000 lb SUV instead of a tiny and cramped sports car.
A top-end luxury SUV
Keeping that luxurious and spacious interior the same is part of the charm of owning a Lamborghini Urus in the first place, so Kar Tunz didn’t want to change that. Many celebrities and rich people can afford a sports car that’s faster than the Urus, but there are few cars that are actually practical to drive while being sporty and fun to drive.
For that reason, many celebrities who own other sports cars, such as the Lamborghini Aventador, will add a more practical car to their garage. That car is almost always a luxury SUV, such as a Range Rover.
So, Lamborghini thought ahead of the game and created a fast, powerful, and practical SUV in the Urus. Car and Driver says that the Urus has a decent amount of cargo space, which means that if you want to go on a shopping spree, you can fit everything in the Urus without breaking a sweat.
