The Safest Hyundai Models You Can Buy in 2019
Safety is the No. 1 feature many people seek when buying a new car, especially if they’re new parents. But it’s a hassle to figure out which cars are affordable and truly safe. Sites like Kelley Blue Book and Consumer Reports warn consumers that just because a car is popular doesn’t mean it’s safe.
AutoNXT also offers input for consumers seeking a safe vehicle. Fortunately, doing your research before signing on the dotted line is easier than ever. If you want a Hyundai, here are four great vehicles offered on the list.
2019 Hyundai Elantra
According to AutoNXT, “A surprising feature in the compact car class, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection is available in the Elantra.” This is great for drivers who face distractions, like children singing in the background. Other features include a forward-facing camera that alerts drivers to dangers. If this fails, auto-braking kicks in.
Kelley Blue Book had mostly positive things to say about the Elantra, reporting that it has a great powertrain warranty and a lot to offer for the price. The only cons are that the Elantra isn’t youthful like the Honda Civic or Mazda 3, and the great driver-assist features are only available on the more expensive models.
2019 Hyundai Kona
This crossover model offers features like forward collision avoidance, high beam assist, lane-keeping assist, and driver attention warning. The main con is that it’s only available on the Kona Limited and Ultimate trim packages, so you’ll have to pay extra.
Consumer Reports states, “The Hyundai Kona is playful and inexpensive, making it one of the more appealing subcompact SUVs.” So if you’re looking for something small that has great safety features and a starting price under $20,000, the Kona may be for you.
2019-20 Hyundai Palisade
According to Kelley Blue Book, “Where some basic SUVs are truly ‘basic,’ it is possible to buy the least expensive Hyundai Palisade and be totally happy. A robust standard feature list, enticing base price, and eye-catching style give the Palisade potent allure versus the competition.”
So what makes the Palisade so great that Kelley Blue Book raves about it? Auto NXT reports that for starters, the Palisade offers lane-keeping assist, rear view monitor, high-beam assist, forward collision avoidance with pedestrian detection, and driver-attention warning.
Like most Hyundai models, the more expensive trims like the SEL and Limited have more features like blind-spot collision warning, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance and safe exit assist. The good news is that all the trim packages include front-wheel-drive.
2019 Hyundai Santa Fe
While the Santa Fe didn’t earn as many safety ratings from IIHS as other models, it still has great features that are worth considering if you’re on the lookout for an SUV. Some of the features include lane-keeping and rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot collision warning, and automatic emergency braking.
Even better is the safe exit assist, which locks the rear doors. This prevents your little ones from opening car doors without warning. It is important to note that the Santa Fe has one recall on it. According to Consumer Reports, “In the event of a crash, if the airbags become damaged during deployment they may not inflate properly, increasing the risk of injury.” If you already own a Santa Fe, your local dealership should be able to make repairs.
