The company’s SUVs emphasize both luxury and affordability. We’ve gathered the safest Kia SUVs of 2020 based on ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Each year, the IIHS  identifies the best vehicles for safety in each car category. The cars that perform the best in each category qualify for either a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ award. The IIHS launched these awards in 2006 and 2013, respectively. 

2020 Kia Soul

The 2020 Kia Soul is a worthy crossover SUV because of its suitable power and in-car tech. It may be quirky, but this Kial offers many practical benefits and has excellent reliability and safety scores. The IIHS named the 2020 Soul a Top Safety Pick for the small car/4-door wagon category.

Kia completely redesigned the Soul for 2020. The current generation offers more active safety features than ever before, including driver drowsiness monitoring and pedestrian detection. Furthermore, the Soul stands out in class for its standard infotainment features, including a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Base models have a 147-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine; a turbo-four that makes 201-hp is optional. 

2020 Kia Sportage 

The Sportage  is another one of the safest Kia SUVs. The Sportage shares underpinnings with the Hyundai Tucson. Like the smaller Soul, the Sportage gives you many modern features at an affordable price. All Sportages come with driver’s assistance technology, including forward-collision warning and lane-keep assist. 

In addition to being a Top Safety Pick, the Sportage sticks out in its class for balancing sportiness and comfort. Standard Sportage models have a 181-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. The base engine offers sufficient power. But for oomph, most reviewers recommend the SX Turbo trim, which has a turbocharged, 240-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. No matter which one you go with, a six-speed automatic is standard. 

2020 Kia Telluride 

Kia’s Telluride has largely dominated conversations in the auto industry, which is no small feat. The new-for-2020 Telluride has earned many accolades, including honors as a Top Safety Pick, a World’s Car of the Year award, and a ‘Family Car of the Year’ distinction. 

Much of the love the Telluride has received this year has to do with its smooth ride quality. Every Telluride trim level has the same 291-hp, 3.8-liter V6 linked to an eight-speed automatic. Additionally, the Telluride comes with different drive modes that help you customize your riding experience. 

Like the other Kias on the list, the Telluride has a long list of standard features. The Telluride seats up to eight and comes with faux leather upholstery. All models have user-friendly touchscreen displays and smartphone integration apps. One of the most notable safety functions the Telluride has is safe exit assist, which stops a passenger from exiting the vehicle when an incoming object is nearby.
