Is the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid a Good Car? 

To get started in a 2020 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid, you’ll need to spend about $35k. Based on our first instincts, that price is a little high. This notion remains the same when evaluating its fuel economy.

The Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid can only go 17 miles before gas kicks in. That’s pretty limited. It only gets about 35 miles to the gallon once the battery runs out, which is only five more than the non-hybrid version of the 2020 Crosstrek.

On a positive note, the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid can get up to 90 mpg and has a 430-mile range in between fill-ups. Also, the gas charges the electric battery. When plugged into a 120-volt household outlet, the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid takes five hours to charge fully. But a 240-volt charge can provide a full charge in only two hours.

Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid Power 

The Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with a battery pack that’s mounted under the cargo floor and a hybrid system. It pumps out 140 horsepower and 134 lb-ft of torque. It can tow up to 1,000 lb, but we wouldn’t push it. Also, the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid is a little sluggish. It takes nearly 8.6 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph. 

The Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid is marketed with having the ability to go off-roading, and it does come with an all-wheel drive. Its ground clearance of 8.9” also helps you climb over obstacles. While there are no driving modes for mud or snow, the dynamic driving assist feature allows the Hybrid Crosstrek to adjust to slippery conditions to provide more traction automatically. 

Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid Features 

The Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid has a little less cargo space due to the battery pack. You can access 15.9 cubic feet of cargo space in the rear and up to 43.1 cubic feet total. This is a little small for a compact SUV but should do the trick.

Also, the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid includes a lot of modern tech features. The infotainment center can connect the Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and has navigation. The system is also voice-activated, and you can add on the optional Wi-fi hotspot to stay connected during trips. 

The Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid has EyeSight technology to put an extra pair of eyes on the road. It can help provide additional braking when needed to prevent wrecks. Vehicles with this EyeSight technology are 85% less likely to be involved in wrecks that cause injuries.

You also get the distracted driver feature, pre-collision emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and much more. The Subaru Crosstrek does seem like a pretty good hybrid option. However, the non-hybrid version only starts around $22k. We aren’t sure if the addition of the hybrid system makes the Crosstrek worth paying an extra $13k for.
