The Suzuki Hayabusa Trails Behind the BMW S1000RR
Both of these incredibly fast motorcycles are fan favorites. The Suzuki Hayabusa GSX 1300 R motorcycle is a bit dated now, however, and the BMW S1000RR motorcycle has just been redesigned. While the ‘Busa remains a faithful steed for high-speed riding, the BMW has received numerous updates that give it more modern agility.
Though there are many loyalists to the Hayabusa, the S1000RR is probably worth a test drive. Especially if you’re on the fence about which superbike to spend your money on. Could the BMW actually leave the ‘Busa behind?
2020 motorcycle pricing
The 2020 Suzuki Hayabusa, according to Ultimate Motorcycling, starts for $14,799. The BMW S1000RR starts a little higher, but the full redesign may be worth it. According to Ultimate Motorcycling, the BMW liter bike is yours for a starting price of $16,995.
This price difference its pretty easily accounted for. The Suzuki is “behind the times with the latest electronic and suspension advances.” The Beemer on the other hand, is “replete with even greater power, finer-tuned electronics, and completely reworked chassis dynamics that redefines the S 1000 RR.”
Additionally, the all-new Beemer superbike has a list of factory packages. This includes the M package that will add several thousand dollars but load up the features. The performance packages are all engineered by BMW, and enhance the superbike’s race road manners. An RR equipped with the M package will start at $22,095.
What’s new for the 2020 BMW S 1000 RR?
For the 2020 redesign, Ultimate Motorcycling reports that the BMW S1000RR boasts 205 horsepower at 13,500 rpm. Plus, 83 pound-feet of torque at 11,000 rpm. Overall, that equals 6 more horsepower and 15 extra pound-feet of torque. This adds a bit more street cred’ compared to the older model, though they have always been smooth and fast.
Also new for 2020, the BMW S1000RR motorcycle are four new ride modes. Race, Road, Dynamic, and Rain modes give riders of the new RR a more versatile experience. The fresh electronics are completely updated and trustworthy, according to UM, and the dash display is entirely reminiscent of the luxury found in BMW’s 4-wheeled products.
The engine and chassis both dropped a few pounds for the lightest S1000RR ever. The 2020 model weighs in at just 434 pounds, giving it a huge edge against other superbikes. The Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle, for example, weighs well over 100 pounds more than the BMW. The updated ride dynamics and the lighter weight give BMW S1000RR a more agile ride. It goes straight at lightning speed, but it is a bit more versatile than the other heavier superbikes.

The BMW S1000RR motorcycle has a top speed of 188 mph, according to Top Speed. Though the Hayabusa is an incredibly fast straightaway superbike, it trails behind by just a bit. Top Speed reports 186 mph for the Suzuki ‘Busa.
The Hayabusa GSX 1300 R is a fan favorite for a reason. There is basically nothing bad to say about this bike, except that it’s in need of a refresh. The electronics could use a list of updates, the ergonomics can improve, and a few pounds shed might not hurt. Still, when all is said and done, the ‘Busa reaches thrilling speeds in a straight line. But The GSX 1300 R’s heavier weight and older technology make it more cumbersome when agility is needed.
The all-new Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle is supposedly just around the corner, but it’s been a while since we’ve heard from Suzuki. According to iMotorbike, the coming production of an all-new Falcon has been confirmed, so we’re just waiting for the official release at this point. Will the upgraded ‘Busa fly fast enough to dominate the Beemer RR? We’ll just have to wait and see.
