It happened again! Tesla is being wild with brand new ideas. They just offered new third-row seats for the Tesla Model Y. However, this 2021 Tesla model is a bit small, so the seats may only be big enough for very small children.

According to Electrek, you can now get the 2021 Tesla Model Y with a third-row seat to provide seating for seven. The tiny back seat has room for two and even includes two cup holders for whoever can fit back there.

Tesla has been promising a seven-seat version of the Model Y since its initial launch back in 2019. People were surprised that a third row could fit in the Model Y, and now that it’s here, it seems even smaller than expected.

From the photos, you can see that there appears to be no leg room between the third row and second row. However, maybe the second-row seats can slide forward a bit to provide more room. These seats are most likely for tiny children or short adults.

You can add the third row of seats to the Model Y for $3,000, and a few things are included with the new interior:

  • Third-row seating for two
  • Easy entry to the third row
  • Third-row USB-C charging
  • A sliding second row with adjustable seatbacks
  • Fold-flat second and third rows for maximum cargo storage
  • Electronic fold-flat releases in the trunk

How big is the Model Y?

The 2021 Tesla Model Y is a mid-size SUV. It has 68.0 cubic feet of cargo space and a small front trunk for extra room. Just for a quick comparison, the Mazda CX-9 has 70 cubic feet of cargo space, and the Toyota Highlander has 84 cubic feet.

So, the Model Y’s cargo space is about average. The five-seat model variant offers two storage cubbies under the cargo floor. One is deep and the other shallow for extra storage versatility. Because the second and third-row fold completely flat, you can fit tons of cargo in the back.

The 2021 Model Y feels large inside. The seats have a tall ride height for that SUV feel. The second row feels incredibly spacious thanks to the glass roof that provides ample headroom. Also, in the second row, your legs can slide beneath the front seats to stretch out.

However, if three adults sit in the second row, it may feel cramped. There isn’t enough shoulder space. Also, the coup-like shape of the Model Y can reduce headroom when you recline the second-row seats.

Is the Model Y comfortable?

The Tesla Model Y has comfortable and supportive seats. There is limited body roll around curves for a smooth and sporty ride. However, the sportiness comes at a cost. The ride is pretty firm.

The Tesla Model Y is the brand's first small electric crossover.

You can feel every bump and imperfection in the road, but it’s not too annoying. Also, wind noises and other exterior sounds easily enter the cabin. The noise is amplified by the lack of an internal combustion engine.
