If you’re in the market for a much larger vehicle, like a truck or an SUV, then the Toyota Tundra might have crossed your mind. But before you go pulling the trigger on one of those, we suggest checking out the 2021 Toyota Sequoia as it’s basically the Toyota Tundra, but in SUV form.

The Toyota Sequoia has more seats and a comfortable ride

Unless you really need to use the infinite vertical hauling capabilities of a truck bed every day, the Toyota Sequoia can provide a lot more versatility and capability than a Tundra when it comes to daily errand duties. It has seating for up to eight passengers, with ample room in the third row, and it can even tow up to 7,400 pounds when the job calls for it.

Need space for hauling? That’s no problem, the Sequoia boasts 66.6 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the second-row seats, and if you need more room than that, the fold those seats down to reveal 120.1 cubic feet of space. While it might not have the open-air storage capacity as the Tundra, the Sequoia at least provides a comfortable hauling solution for both people and cargo, thanks to its rear independent suspension, which the Tundra does not have.

Need to go off-road? It can do that, too

If you’re more of the off-road type, then have no fear, the 2021 Toyota Sequoia has you covered. In addition to the five other trim levels, the Sequoia is also available in the TRD Sport and TRD Pro trim levels, which adds a healthy dose of off-road worthiness to the equation. The TRD Sport gives the Sequoia a more aggressive look and feels via a chrome grille with black accents, 20-inch TRD black wheels, and TRD-tuned sport suspension with Bilstein shocks.

If you’re looking to kick things up a notch to ensure that you and your family can reach that remote vacation cabin any time of the year, then we suggest going with the TRD Pro trim level. Opting for that level of performance will add on Rigid Industries LED fog lights, 18-inch black BBS forged alloy wheels, black cast-aluminum running boards, and a beefed-up suspension that includes front and rear FOX shocks with piggyback reservoirs to soak up any imperfections that Mother Earth can throw under you.

It’s a little pricier, though

Although the Toyota Sequoia has ample seating for up to eight passengers, has the ability to haul everything but the kitchen sink, and can take you places unknown just like the Tundra can, it’s still more expensive. The 2021 Sequoia has a starting price of around $51,500 and it can reach up to $67,515 for the top-trim Platinum model, however, that price can easily eclipse the $70,000 mark with all of the option boxes checked.

For reference, the Tundra starts at $35,000 and can shoot up to the $50,000 range if you move up the trim level ladder to the Platinum model. So if pricing is an issue, then you might be stuck with a truck, but if not, then the Sequoia can easily provide you with everything you need in a larger vehicle.
