The Toyota Tacoma is putting this unspoken rule to the test. According to Kelley Blue Book, many consumers aren’t willing to part with their Tacoma without a fight. If you have a Tacoma you want to sell, this is good news for you, however. You can set the price at what you want, and someone may be willing to buy it. Here’s why the Toyota Tacoma has such a great resale value.

Toyota has had its ups and downs, but it’s been around for years and has learned a few tricks that other automakers have yet to learn. One of the most simple yet clever tactics to get consumers onto the sales floor is to give them options.

According to Kelley Blue Book, “From staying mostly on road to venturing to extreme off-road areas, there are more than 30 different combinations of trim levels, engines – a 4-cylinder engine or a powerful, efficient V6 – two transmissions, and a wide range of options.”

For someone who has trouble making up their mind, this may prove to be frustrating, but everyone else will have a field day. No matter where you are or what you’re doing, there’s a Toyota Tacoma designed for you, which helps add to the high price of used Tacoma models.

The Toyota Tacoma is suited for city life and off-road adventures

While many Toyota Tacoma models are designed to go off-roading, not everyone enjoys a jaunt through the woods. If that’s the case for you, you’ll be pleased to know that the seating is extra comfortable thanks to a 10-way power-adjustable seat. For music lovers, the Tacoma comes standard with a 7-inch infotainment screen and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Some of the great features offered on the Tacoma make off-roading seem almost simple. One of the coolest gadgets is the video system that allows you to see where you’re going and what’s coming up ahead. There’s also a five-second front projected video playback that allows you to see tree stumps, ruts, rocks, and pit holes that may bring your joy ride to a screeching halt if you don’t avoid them.

There’s also a Panoramic View Monitor + Multi-Terrain Monitor that will give you a near-360-degree-view of the scenery. It also has great towing ability. If you decide to tow a boat out to the lake for a day of fun, the Tacoma can tow up to 6,800 pounds. 

Is the used Tacoma better than the new?

As shocking as this may sound, some used Tacoma models are actually priced higher than a brand-new one, so keep that in mind if you’re in the market for a used truck. This may sound crazy as this isn’t how things work in the auto world, but there’s something about a Tacoma that seems to make owners unwilling to part with it. 

Tom McParland, a writer for Jalopnik went searching for a used Tacoma, and stated, “When I started looking at pre-owned listings I would come across crazy used trucks like this 2013 with 38,000 miles for almost $30,000.” He was later able to find a brand new Tacoma for $28,775. 

According to Car Complaints, the Toyota Tacoma really doesn’t have that many complaints against it. The 2016 model has the most, but when you look at the graph, the most reported problem was the transmission, and only 43 people reported it. 

So does this really explain why some people are willing to spend so much on a used vehicle? It could be that some people have a certain model year they want, and nothing is going to change their minds. Or perhaps there’s something about a Tacoma that’s simply worth the excessive price. Either way, if you have a used Tacoma to sell, you’re definitely sitting in the driver’s seat when it comes to negotiations.
