Dominic Toretto and Luke Hobbs of the Fast and the Furious franchise should be careful about committing crimes in Dubai. Their garages of exotic sports cars can outrun a regular police force from the U.S., but not the police force of Dubai. That’s because Dubai has the world’s fastest police cars.

A super fleet of police cars

Dubai is a city known for its extravagance. For example, it’s home to many world records, including the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. This decadence reaches the city’s police force too, as those crimefighters are leaving nothing to chance.

No matter how fast a criminal is trying to drive away from the law, Dubai’s got them beat. The Dubai police force has a 14-car fleet of supercars that can catch any would-be criminal’s vehicle. 

This super-fleet has incredibly fast and powerful cars like the McLaren MP4-12C, a Lamborghini Aventador, and the crown jewel of the fleet, a Bugatti Veyron. 

The Veyron is not the current fastest car in the world, but it’s the fastest police car in the world. The Veyron that the Dubai police drive can hit over 253 miles per hour, meaning that the only way to escape it would be to get on a plane. 

The other supercars in the Dubai police’s super-fleet aren’t slouches either. The McLaren can hit over 200 miles per hour and the Aventador can hit over 217 miles per hour. 

These supercars have a practical purpose too. Dubai, being a city of extreme wealth, which also means that a lot of people drive supercars and even some hypercars. If a criminal gets their hands on one of them, then the Dubai police need a car that can beat those cars’ performance figures, and that’s exactly what this super fleet does.

However, Dubai isn’t the only place in the world with super-fast police cars.

An Italian job

Italy’s traffic police have partnered with Lamborghini for several years now and that’s why they also have a supercar in their fleet. The first one was a Lamborghini Gallardo and it wasn’t just used to catch criminals, it was also used to transport organs quickly to people who had just been in an accident.

However, the Gallardo got in a wreck a few years back. That’s why Lamborghini was proud to present to the Italian traffic police a new supercar for them to use. The Italian traffic police received a Lamborghini Huracan in 2017 and it has some impressive performance figures as well.

The Huracan can go from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds and it can hit a top speed of about 190 miles per hour. The Huracan will also do a similar job to what the Gallardo did for the Italian traffic police.

In America

Unfortunately, American police forces don’t purchase supercars for their fleets, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t have some fast cars. The fastest police car in America is a Ford Police Interceptor Utility.

It’s actually an SUV, which mirrors America’s obsession with the car body type. This powerful police SUV can hit 150 miles per hour and it can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about 5.8 seconds.

Compared to a Veyron or a Huracan, those figures aren’t that impressive. Unlike the Huracan or the Veyron though, the Police Interceptor Utility isn’t a specialized car or a novelty vehicle for extremely specific cases. It’s actually one of the most popular police cars for police forces right now.

According to Jalopnik, the Police Interceptor Utility was 54% of all car sales to police forces in 2017. So while performance-wise it isn’t impressive, it is the best combination of practicality and power for police forces, at least according to American ones.
