There are plenty of car commercials where cars are given as a gift. They have a huge bow on top. Not everyone can buy a car as a gift for their mom though, which is just what the singer Lizzo did for her mom, Shari Johnson-Jefferson, this past Christmas when she bought her an Audi Q5.

Lizzo surprised her mom with a new Audi

Lizzo shared on Instagram the great gift she had gotten her mom, Billboard describes.

On December 20, she posted, “Got my mommy a brand new Audi for Xmas 🎄I remember crying in my car when my daddy passed, no job no money nowhere to live, wishing I could one day provide for my family.. I couldnt do it for my dad so ima make sure I spoil Mama. Happy holidays y’all.”

Her post included a video of her mom seeing the new Audi Q5 with its red bow on the hood for the first time and looking thrilled. Lizzo says, “I got you an Audi, girl.” Lizzo’s mom says, “You see these things on television, and you never expect this to happen to yourself.”

What makes Lizzo’s gift so special

Lizzo’s post refers to a terrible time in her life. Born in 1988 as Melissa Jefferson, she lived in Detroit until moving to Houston with her family when she was nine, according to AllMusic. Lizzo’s father passed away in 2009 when she was 20 and a student at the University of Houston.

Following this personal tragedy, she lived in her car for a time and moved to Minneapolis to begin establishing herself as a performer. In 2019, Lizzo’s song “Truth Hurts” hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Following additional hits, Lizzo also had several Grammy wins in 2020. According to BuzzFeed, on the 10th anniversary of her father’s death, Lizzo posted to Instagram that “I quit singing. I quit trying. 10 years later I am the superstar he worked so hard for me to become.”

An Audi makes an awesome gift

While Lizzo’s mom was happy for the gift even before she realized it was an Audi, an Audi does make a fantastic gift. The 2021 Audi Q5 offers either a gas-powered or a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The gas engine is a 261-hp turbocharged four-cylinder with a seven-speed automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive. The plug-in hybrid adds an electric motor, which increases the horsepower to 362 hp.

The interior is quiet and comfortable with luxury features for every trim. The Q5 has a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with a Wi-Fi hotspot and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Higher trims also have the Virtual Cockpit, which is a 12.3-inch reconfigurable digital gauge cluster.

The SUV comes standard with automated emergency braking with forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control is available. With five trim levels, starting prices for the 2021 Audi Q5 are around $43,000.

For Lizzo, her success is represented by how far she’s come in 10 years: from crying in her car following the death of her father to giving a car as a gift to her mother. The Audi Q5 truly made the perfect Christmas present for Lizzo’s mom.
