The 2020 Audi R8 with its head-turning style, minimalist cabin, and satisfying speed is everything you could want in an exotic sports car. The 2020 Lamborghini Huracán doesn’t just turn heads. It snaps them back with a powerful acceleration that will leave you breathless. The Huracán can easily hit speeds that aren’t legal in the U.S.

While both cars define the very best of dynamic performance cars, they have one very big thing in common. What is it?

The V10 

According to Autocar, ten-cylinder engines are unique. V10 engines have only ever been used to fulfill a need for speed, to make cars more thrilling. It certainly does that for both the Audi R8 and the Lamborghini Huracán. 

That’s right. They share the same engine. 

Road and Track explain both sports cars are powered by 5.2-liter, naturally-aspirated V10 that gets 602 horsepower. Both are all-wheel-drive with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Both can go from zero to 60 mph in just three seconds.

The two cars practically have the same powertrain. But then Audi and Lamborghini are both owned by the VW Group. 

The V10 engine seems to be vanishing these days according to Autocar. In recent years, several automakers like BMW and Porsche have stopped using them. Even the popular Dodge Viper took the V10 out of production. 

Now there’s just one V10 left in the Audi R8. It’s also in the Lamborghini Huracán in a slightly tweaked form.

The 2020 Audi R8

Unlike the Huracán, the Audi R8 is slightly more civilized and actually makes a good daily drive car. Yes, it still has that V10 roar and up to 602 horses, depending on which model you go with. 

The acceleration is as powerful as you expect but the R8 has handling that is well suited to normal driving as opposed to the race track. The exterior is striking and the interior is just as visually appealing. The cabin is opulent with soft leather, real carbon-fiber trim, and a gauge display that’s all digital.

After being taken off the 2019 lineup, the Audi R8 returns in 2020 with new styling cues according to Car and Driver. The standard model is the coupe with a Spyder convertible model and performance variations of both. All models get the V10, all-wheel-drive, and the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Standard models get 562 horsepower while the performance models go up to 602 horsepower.

The 2020 Lamborghini Huracán

The Huracán is going to set you back six figures – just to get that out of the way. But for that price, you get the sports car you’ve always wanted. Nothing gets attention like the dynamic Lamborghini Huracán. Yes, it shares that V10 engine with the Audi R8 but it takes acceleration to another level. 

According to Car and Driver, you could hear the roar of that engine in the Huracán above the noise of a rock concert. For all the athleticism and power, this Italian sports car handles well in ordinary traffic. You’ll just need to check your speed because it can well exceed legal limits in the states.

In 2020, the Huracán gets a new namesake in the Evo. The new Evo has a rear-drive model that Car and Driver likes. It’s not as powerful as the all-wheel-drive but the vehicle isn’t as heavy and it’s slightly more affordable. There is also a new Amazon Alexa integration with its already impressive infotainment system.

Both the 2020 Audi R8 and the 2020 Lamborghini Huracán share a dynamic V10 engine that may be the last of a dying breed. One pulls magnificent acceleration and power from it. One makes it civilized and integrates it into an elegant car that can be driven daily. Both are amazing, well-crafted sports cars.
