For the 2021 model year, both SUVs got a massive overhaul featuring a fresh new look, more interior space, and even nicer interior materials. However, these SUVs have hit a bit of a snag, according to a new recall covered by CarComplaints. In short, some of these SUVs were sold missing vital seat attachment bolts.

What is wrong with these 2021 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban SUVs?

There is plenty to like about the brand-new 2021 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban SUVs. However, a new recall covered by CarComplaints shows that at least 100 of these SUVs were improperly put together at the factory. The main fault pertains to the seat bolts that hold in the front seats. According to CarComplaints, the front seats sometimes need to be removed during assembly for potential repairs. However, some of the attachment bolts were reportedly not properly re-installed.

As a result, there are 2021 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban SUVs driving around with missing or improperly fastened bolts. As you’d expect, CarComplaints reports that this defect could lead to serious injury during an accident. Since the front seats may not be held down properly, they could potentially come loose.

The positive note here is that the issue was caught before the problem affected a larger quantity of SUVs. Given how well the Tahoe and Suburban often sell, this could have been a massive problem for General Motors. Thankfully, no injuries or casualties have been reported as of writing.

These GMC SUVs are also affected

For decades, the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban have shared most major components with the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL. As a result, this latest recall also affects GMC’s 2021 large SUVs. Unfortunately, the recall does not specify exactly how many of each model could potentially have this dangerous manufacturing mishap.

While the Chevy and GMC SUVs may be extremely similar, there is no mention of the recall affecting the Cadillac Escalade. The reason being could dome down to the fact that the Escalade uses a different seat altogether. This means that the seat mounting bracket may also be different and not prone to suffering from the same issue. So if you’ve just bought a brand-new Escalade, there does not seem to be any reason for concern as of writing.

If you happen to have a 2021 Chevy Tahoe or Suburban, here is what you should do. CarComplaint reports that General Motors will begin the recall officially on December 29th. From there, the dealer normally contacts the affected owners. Once the SUV is taken to the dealership, the front seats will go through a thorough investigation to replace or tighten any of the bolts as needed.
