These Are the Least Reliable Luxury SUVs of 2020
The family SUV is a booming industry for carmakers. Americans absolutely love SUVs. They come in all shapes and sizes. There are budget SUVs like the Hyundai Kona and there are hefty haulers with equally hefty price tags, like the Cadillac Escalade. If you decide to spend more of your hard-earned money to upgrade to a luxury vehicle, you want to know that your investment is smart. These are the least reliable luxury SUVs of 2020.
According to Consumer Reports, there are a few different categories of 2020 luxury SUVs. They’ve divided them up by size to create lists of luxury autos for the purpose of stamping their ratings on each one in an organized fashion. There are the entry-level or subcompact SUVs, then the compact size. After that, CR rates a midsize group and a large luxury SUV group.
The 2020 Cadillac XT4
In terms of entry-level or subcompact SUVs, CR rated the 2020 Cadillac XT4 the worst. From a list of 12 luxury subcompact SUVs, the 2020 XT4 came 11th. And that is just because the 12th car hasn’t been tested yet, and therefore has not been rated.
The 2020 Cadillac XT4 has a starting price range of $35,695 – $42,295. At first glance it is sleek and poised –– but CR is not a fan of the 2020 XT4. They give is an overall rating of just 52. Additionally, the predicted reliability score is low. CR stamped the 2020 Cadillac XT4 with the lowest predicted reliability score possible: 1 out of 5. CR predicts major issues with the in-car electrics.
Also, they noted that the Cadillac XT4 produces some engine noise louder than expected for an SUV in the luxury segment. Plus, it lacks in the safety department with very few standard safety features.
The 2020 Acura RDX
The 2020 Acura RDX is among the least reliable compact luxury SUVs. The CR review says that “Acura missed the mark with the RDX’s annoyingly complex controls. In addition, we are not enthusiastic about the luxury compact SUV’s fuel economy.” The 2020 RDX was rated 1 out of 5 for predicted reliability. It didn’t do terribly in its drive test, receiving an overall score of 61, but CR hated the infotainment system.
2020 Land Rovers, too
Three Land Rovers also made the cut for least reliable. The 2020 Discovery Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and Range Rover Velar each earned the dreaded 1 out of 5 for predicted reliability. In fact, CR didn’t have many kind words for any of the 2020 compact Land Rovers and gave overall scores of 44, 45, and 54 respectively.
The 2020 Acura MDX
The 2020 Acura MDX scored low on all fronts with an overall score of 58. It’s earned only 1 out of 5 for predicted reliability for several model years in a row, now. A glance at the last few years of the CR chart for the Acura MDX’s reliability history shows body issues and transmission problems in addition to frustrations with power equipment and in-car electronics, making it one of the least reliable 2020 luxury SUVs.
And more Land Rovers
Three more Land Rover SUVs dangle down at the bottom. The 2020 Range Rover Sport, Range Rover (who both got an overall 54), and Discovery (51) add to the list of Land Rover’s low reliability scores. It’s definitely a thing.
The 2020 Cadillac Escalade
Cadillac’s 2020 Escalade is not doing well on the CR list of luxury SUVs of 2020. With a dismal overall of 41, the Escalade is the least reliable large luxury SUV of 2020. This large third-row SUV has a starting price range of $75,195 – $98,295. If that kind of money is being spent on a vehicle, good reliability marks can set buyers at ease knowing their purchase is a reliable luxury SUV. Such is not the case for the 2020 Escalade.
