These Cars Only Came in One Color From the Factory
Corvettes just look right in red, and Subaru WRXes look right in blue. But, they come in other colors too. Today, you can go to your Audi dealer and and they will match any color swatch you have for your new A7 r RS5. The color variety on cars for 2023 is truly mind blowing.
But these cars only came from the factory painted one color. If you see one in any other color, it’s either a bad fake or a one-off custom.
Ferrari F40 only came in Rosso Corsa
Today you’ll see custom F40s in a multitude of colors. But they all left the factory in Rosso Corsa, or Ferrari Red. To some, it’s sacrilege to paint a Ferrari F40 because that was the color that Enzo Ferrari himself blessed, according to Ferrari.
Buick Grand National and GNX only came in black
The Buick Grand National and GNX cars proved in the 1980s that GM could build a world-class-fast car, even it was based on a humble Regal. The Buick GNX and 1984 and later Grand National cars only came in black from the factory. If you got lucky and got one of the early cars, you could order it in two-tone black and gray. The very similar Regal T-Type, however, came in almost any color, though many have been painted to look like their sinister faster cousins.
Porsche 911 GT3 RS only came in white
The 911 GT3 RS from the 996 generation only came in one color scheme. From 1998 to 2004 the ultimate expression of the 996 series (or 996.2, if you’re a Porschefile), came only in white with a big red stripe down the side. The car was a stonker, with a 380-horsepower flat-six-cylinder engine powering only the rear wheels. They were not officially imported into the U.S., but plenty of gray-market cars have found their way to the states.
Porsche did, however, offer a variety of wheel colors.
DeLorean DMC-12s were all stainless steel
So these cars weren’t actually painted gray. Every DeLorean has a stainless steel body. At the time it was touted as revolutionary because it wouldn’t rust and wouldn’t show scratches like a painted surface. Though not many call the car’s color pretty, they have stood the test of time for their unique looks (and doors).
The new Tesla Cybertruck, though, could bring back the stainless steel body look.
Lamborghini Reventon only came in sinister gray
Like the DeLorean, the Lamborghini Reventon only came in greay. Lamborghini calls this unique shade Grey Barra or Grigio Reventon, depending on what country you’re in. But it certainly stands out with its flat gray paint that makes the Reventon look even more sinister. It doesn’t hurt that this car comes with a 6.5-liter V-12 engine that makes an angry 650 horsepower.
The Ford Model T famously came in only black
It’s true that Henry Ford said of the Model T, “’Any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants so long as it is black.” The Model T was the original one-color car, and it soldiered on from 1908 to 1927, with very few changes.
