To many, the Hummer represented the pinnacle of the American SUV. Now, GMC is resurrecting the nameplate for its first electric 4×4.

The 2022 Hummer pickup EV is the definition of overkill. According to GMC, the truck makes up to 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. It targets a 350 mile range and 3-second 0-60 mph time. Features include a removable glass roof and rear-wheel steering that allows it to drive sideways.

We are happy to say GMC made this year’s list twice. The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500’s top trim level is the Denali Ultimate. This new 2022 truck is one of the most technologically-advanced internal combustion pickups ever made.

Tech available in the new Denali Ultimate includes 12 Bose premium speakers and 14 exterior camera views. The Denali Ultimate is noteworthy for being General Motor’s first truck to offer hands-free Super Cruise technology. It can drive, and even trailer, on 200,000 miles of pre-mapped interstate spanning the country.

Its alright if you’ve never heard of Rivian: this automotive startup is only eight years old. But this company has been quietly designing the world’s first electric truck, then building it at its factory in Normal, Illinois.

The resulting environmentally-friendly, 800 horsepower 4×4 has a quad-motor drivetrain that could make a Tesla blush, holds the record for the first transcontinental EV expedition, and is the world’s fastest truck. With exciting companies like Rivian around, the future of the pickup looks bright.

Do you remember your first pickup truck? The unibody Ford Maverick with its 4.5-foot bed may barely be a truck by some standards. But it starts at less than $20,000. As importantly, it is targeting 40+ mpg in certain configurations. Ford says this is the truck for people who don’t know they want a truck. The Maverick will be thousands of drivers’ first pickup.

If the golden age of the pickup truck is truly dawning, we’ll need gateway 2022 trucks like the Ford Maverick, Honda Ridgeline, and Hyundai Santa Cruz to win over a new generation of pickup truck drivers. This alone is enough reason to be excited about the Ford Maverick.
