These Pickup Trucks Will Last You Well Over 200,000 Miles
Pickup trucks are a mainstay of American roads and many Americans are looking or will be looking to buy a new or used truck in the near future. A good truck needs to not only be practical and powerful but also long-lasting.
Consistent and quality maintenance is obviously key to keeping your pickup truck going, but some models are just better than others in that regard. Here are 4 makes of trucks that have been statistically shown to be the most reliable pick up trucks in America.
4. GMC Sierra 1500
That iSeeCars study showed that 2.0% of all vehicles tracked in the U.S. that are still going strong after logging over 200,000 miles are the Sierra 1500. The latest model of the Sierra 1500 starts with a 2.7-liter 310-hp engine but there are engine choices that include a 6.2-liter 420-hp V8 as well.
GMC claims that the Sierra 1500 has more cargo bed room than its competitors among other features. The latest models can range from $37,800 to $67,075 depending on your choice of trim. But older and used models of the Sierra 1500 should be much cheaper and just as reliable as the 2019 or 2020 versions.
3. Ford F-150
The F-150 edges out the Sierra 1500 slightly by accounting for 2.1% of all vehicles that are still being driven after 200,000 miles. The F-150 is one of the most famous pickup trucks in America. Ford is always trying new things with it, but one thing that’s stayed the same is the fact that it’s a very reliable vehicle. In fact, in a year-long study by J.D. Power, the 2016 F-150 that they tested received an overall reliability rating of 8 out of 10.
Because of how popular and durable the F-150 is, there are practically a million different versions of the F-150 that you can choose from. For the current model of the F-150, you can choose engines that range from the standard 2.7-liter 325-hp engine to a 3.5-liter 450-hp engine. The F-150 also offers engines that specialize in towing. The best ones can tow over 11,500 lb.
The newest F-150s starts at $28,155 and can cost up to $67,135. And like the Sierra 1500, there are tons of older or used F-150s that are much cheaper and just as reliable as the latest models.
2. Chevrolet Silverado 1500
According to that iSeeCars study, the Silverado 1500 accounted for 2.2% of all vehicles still on the road after 200,000 miles. Furthermore, according to the year-long study by J.D. Power, the 2016 Silverado 1500 received a 9 out of 10 reliability rating. Thus, the Silverado 1500 edges out the F-150 slightly in both long term studies.
This workhorse of a Chevy boasts plenty of trim options and offers comparable and sometimes superior performance figures compared to the other pickup trucks listed here. Like the F-150, the Silverado 1500 has engine options for power, performance, or practicality. There are options ranging from a 3.0-liter 277-hp engine all the way to a 6.2-liter 420-hp V8.
The current model of the Silverado 1500 starts at $28,300 and it can cost up to $60,890. But, just like most other trucks, the older and used models are cheaper and as reliable as the newest ones.
1. Toyota Tacoma
With 2.5% of all vehicles on the road that are still being driven after 200,000 miles, the Tacoma is statistically the most reliable make of pickup truck in the country. In fact, the Tacoma is so reliable that its used models sometimes sell for higher than its newest models because of its proven reliability.
As a result of this legendary reliability, the price for a Tacoma can really vary and you might actually want to buy a new one rather than a used one if you’re on a budget.
The Tacoma has two choices of engines available, a 2.7-liter 159-hp one or a 3.5-liter 278-hp engine. However, there are still plenty of trims to choose from, and a brand new Tacoma can range from a standard $25,850 all the way to $42,960 for the TRD Pro.
