Thieves Race Away With Ford F-150 Raptor and Mustang Models
Do you know what the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500 models have in common? They’re both incredibly fast vehicles. This is typically a good thing, but this allowed thieves to quickly disappear with multiple Ford F-150 Raptor and Mustang models.
Thieves steal Ford F-150 Raptor and Mustang Shelby models
Ford assembly plants are being targeted by thieves who are after Ford F-150 Raptor and S550 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 models. Members of these two different heists got away with four Mustang models and $1,000,000 worth of Raptor models.
The Mustangs were taken from the Flat Rock Assembly plant on Thursday morning, and the Raptors were taken from Rouge Assembly Complex grounds in Dearborn, Michigan. It’s unclear if the two jobs are connected.
According to Muscle Cars and Trucks, police notified the Detroit Regional Communications center around 3:30 A.M. to share that a couple of Mustang models were stolen and sprang into action.
What happened to the F-150 Raptors and Mustangs?
The thieves with the Ford Mustang models saw Woodhaven police members while attempting to get gas and fled. The police team didn’t pursue the vehicles but helped in making a bust by tipping off more officers.
Then Michigan Police Troopers set up a traffic stop, but the Mustangs fled again. Cops decided to chase a single unit until it ran out of gas.
The driver pulled into the grass and was pursued. Two more Mustangs also ran out of gas and were recovered. One or two models are still out there. The driver was apprehended.
Members of the Dearborn police have managed to recover about 13 Ford F-150 Raptor models from the Dearborn and Detroit area. One or two models are still out there.
The recovered trucks were damaged and stripped of parts. Ford F-150 parts can fetch a pretty penny on the dark market. So far, one person has been arrested in relation to the heist.
The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 costs about $77,260, and you can get started with a 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor for about $69,905. These thieves had the potential to score big.
How fast can the F-150 Raptor and Mustang Shelby go?
The 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor comes with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that cranks out 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 5.2 seconds. We aren’t sure what the cops were driving, but we feel like the cruisers could have been faster.
With the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, you get a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that provides 760 hp and 625 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 in about 3.4 seconds and seems much harder to catch.
If the thieves waited for the Ford F-150 Raptor R, then they could have gone even faster. It’s expected to gain the Predator engine from the Mustang Shelby GT500 and could have at least 720 hp.
We hope thieves don’t target Ford plants again or any automakers. They could disrupt the supply chain shortage and take a vehicle that someone has been waiting for.
