Is the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander a good compact SUV?
In the world of compact SUVs, the options from Subaru and Honda usually overshadow the rest. However, the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander received a massive redesign that brought it into modern times. According to the sales numbers on GoodCarBadCar, Mitsubishi sold 40,940 units of the Outlander compact SUV in 2022 alone. It had sales of 37,000 or more in both 2018 and 2019, but nothing compared to 2022.

Mitsubishi offers the Outlander in a Sport trim and the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) version. The Sport saw 4,056 units sold in 2022, and another 829 for the PHEV. Even though it has a few varieties, it seems potential owners and experts agree that the Outlander offers big value in a small package.
The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is the only compact SUV with three rows
There is only one compact SUV that comes with a third-row standard, according to Edmunds. Most compact SUVs won’t even offer a third row, let alone include it as standard. As you might imagine, the third row in the Outlander isn’t very big. It is a good option for families or frequently carrying many small passengers.
Edmunds notes that the 2022 Outlander SUV is “massively better than its immediate predecessor.” It gets a new touchscreen interface, upgraded materials in the cabin, and a more comfortable ride. Raging from $26,995 to $35,345, this compact SUV also has more cargo space than before. It is inexpensive but improved a lot for 2022, making it a good option for those seeking a budget-friendly option.
On top of that, Mitsubishi’s warranty plan is generous. Every Outlander comes with a five-year or 60,000-mile basic warranty, a 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, and five years or unlimited miles of roadside assistance.
The Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) has also been a hit
The Outlander’s plug-in hybrid powertrain is a good in-between for those who aren’t ready for a fully-electric vehicle yet. Mitsubishi says the 2023 Outlander PHEV arrived in November of 2022 and saw sales up 200% year-over-year in its first full month (December). It was also named 2023 Family Green Car of the Year from Green Car Journal”s 2023 Green Car Awards.
So even if you have not seen the new Mitsubishi Outlander compact SUV, it isn’t going anywhere. Reviews for the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander have been positive, and people are always looking for a budget-friendly SUV. Compact SUVs have a tough job, and very few have a third row, so don’t count the Mitsubishi Outlander out just yet.
