This $100,000 Lexus LC 500h Just Makes me Miss my Minivan
I just had the privilege of spending a week with the 2021 Lexus LC 500h. And it really just made me miss my minivan. Don’t get me wrong––the Lexus LC was luxurious and coddling in every way. The gas tank lasted forever, and I got looks at every turn. But for $100,000 I honestly expected to feel sad getting back into my minivan. I didn’t.
Is the Lexus LC a good car?
The answer to this question, of course, depends on what you need and want from your vehicle. The 2021 Lexus LC 500h is a good car. It’s purpose-built, however, and probably best suited for one or two passengers most of the time.
As comfortable and efficient as this car is, it was hard not to just get on the highway and see where I ended up by the end of the day. Yes, it’s a small car that isn’t exactly designed for hauling gear. But it begs to be road-tripped in.
Overall, my time spent driving the 2021 Lexus LC 500h was pleasurable, comfortable, and I felt safe. I have little negative to say about the Lexus LC. However, regardless of its zippy hybrid V6 engine and a long list of creature comforts, it just never felt like home.
How much is 2021 Lexus LC 500h?
The 2021 Lexus LC 500h has a starting price of $97,510, according to Edmunds. Our tester topped out around $107,000. This is a car with a very specific consumer demographic––the rich.
Every bit of it feels like a $100,000 car. Even in the hybrid powertrain the engine is formidable and the transmission is super smooth. I’ll admit I bumped my head the first time I ducked into the driver’s seat. But don’t worry, I was a quick study. It only happened once. In fact, the 2021 Lexus LC 500h is seriously easy to get used to.
I did have some qualms, though the red seats, faux suede, and soft-touch everything everywhere made them easy to forget. I found it awkward that there isn’t a good place to rest your phone. At least not one that I could find. There isn’t an ergonomic spot that’s the right size. Another issue I had was that our child safety seats were really difficult to fit in through the door and into the back seat. While most people buying the Lexus LC 500h won’t have much reason to care about this, it’s still worth mentioning.
I miss my minivan
The 2021 Lexus LC 500h is really fun to drive. I felt at home and everything is luxurious and comfortable. But I still missed my minivan. While driving around in a shiny new sporty-looking Lexus was enjoyable overall, I still found myself missing all the roomy comfort and incognito effect it gives me when I’m behind the wheel of my Chrysler mom-mobile.
It would would take an extremely special vehicle that pulled on my personal heartstrings so tear me away from my van. The Lexus LC is special––there’s no doubt about it. But for $100,000, you’d think it wouldn’t make me miss my minivan so much.
