The Ford Mustang Dark Horse is the top of the Mustang lineup for 2024. However, the spiritual successor to the now-discontinued Mustang Mach 1 couldn’t best a 5,000 lb British luxury GT car in a recent acceleration and braking test. That’s right; the hulking 2024 Bentley Continental GT Speed outran the Ford Mustang Dark Horse. However, the news is a bit different when the two cars hit the brakes.

In a 0-to-150-to-0 test, the 2024 Bentley Continental GT Speed trounces the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse

On paper, the 2024 Bentley Continental GT Speed should always get the last laugh on the latest range-topping Mustang. Specifically, the GT Speed produces 650 horsepower from its W12 heart, 150 ponies ahead of the Dark Horse. What’s more, the GT Speed grips hard with standard all-wheel drive (AWD), unlike the Dark Horse’s tire-roasting rear-wheel drive (RWD) setup.

As a result, the GT Speed launched harder and pulled through to 150 mph much quicker than the lighter Ford Mustang Dark Horse. By the 150 mph mark, the Bentley GT car was a whopping 6.1 seconds ahead of the Mustang. However, the lighter, more agile Dark Horse scrubbed off speed from 150-0 in 5.2 seconds, over a second and 111 feet shy of the GT Speed. 

Still, the better braking performance wasn’t enough to hand the Dark Horse the win in Car and Driver’s 0-to-150-to-0 testing. The GT Speed finished the run in 24.6 seconds start-to-finish. Conversely, the 500-horsepower Dark Horse required 29.7 ticks to run the same test.  

However, the two have very different clientele

While the brutish Brit and the range-topping Mustang are interesting competitors, the two come from wildly different price points. In fact, the Mustang model starts at a staggering $245,000 less than the Bentley GT car.
