Many Americans still have to commute to work daily. And the unluckiest of the bunch must travel great distances on boring roads. Some vehicles are better than others at helping beat the tedium. And surprisingly, a Buick is one of them. Here’s a look at the 2020 Buick Regal TourX, a great station wagon that’s soon to be gone.

A quick overview of the 2020 Buick Regal TourX

Subaru dominates the station wagon segment, but according to Car and Driver, the Regal TourX is a worthy competitor. Starting around $30,000, the TourX is a bit more expensive than its closest Subaru rival, the Outback, whose starting price is about $28,000. That being said, the Regal TourX is a Buick, and as such, it boasts the luxurious interior that people expect from a Buick. 

While Car and Driver described the Regal TourX’s interior as “upscale,” the main attraction is its quietness. The publication said the TourX had a “serene” cabin that, along with its upscale interior, made for a very comfortable ride. On top of that, Car and Driver praised the station wagon’s cargo capacity. With its seats folded down, the Regal TourX offers a generous 74 cubic feet of cargo space. 

The Regal TourX is sporty too. It comes equipped with a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates about 250 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Getting 25 mpg combined, this engine isn’t the most fuel-efficient, but it pushes the Buick from 0 to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds, MotorTrend reported. 

Why the Buick Regal TourX is great for long commutes

Many of the above traits make the Buick Regal TourX a great option for daily driving. Indeed, Jalopnik suggested this Regal model is excellent for long commutes because it’s fun to drive. 

The Regal TourX’s 6.3-second 0-to-60 split isn’t that impressive compared with the most expensive sports cars, but as Jalopnik mentioned, that time is comparable to some cheap sports cars. As a result, though the Regal TourX won’t be the fastest car on the road, it allows drivers to make highway passes easily, and that can cut down on commute times. 

Plus, the 2020 Buick Regal TourX’s sumptuous interior means its owner will have a relatively relaxing time while driving to and from work. And after work, this station wagon doubles as a family vehicle that can carry plenty of groceries and passengers.

But its days are numbered

Though the Regal TourX is a great choice for long commutes, Buick will stop making this comfy wagon after 2020. Then you’ll be able to buy only used models.

That being said, if you’re shopping for a brand-new Regal TourX, be aware that the standard model doesn’t offer many smart safety features, according to Car and Driver. Adding them can push the MSRP to almost $36,000. But that might be a small price to pay for a daily commute that doesn’t suck.
