Bugatti has a long history of producing expensive cars most of us can only dream of driving, much less owning. This year marks the company’s 110th anniversary. Since Bugatti started producing hyper-powerful vehicles in 1989, the world’s ultrarich have clamored to park one of these exclusive supercars in their garage.

Just when we started to think Bugatti had charged as much as anyone would spend for a vehicle, we learn about the Centodieci. It turns out you can buy a fighter jet for less money than what you’d spend on this car.

The cost of the Bugatti Centodieci compared to a fighter jet

A brand new Bugatti Centodieci costs a staggering $8,878,800. And that’s just the price of the vehicle. It doesn’t include dealership fees, sales tax, vehicle registration, or insurance premiums. When all is said and done, just to drive the vehicle off the lot, you’ll have to spend over $9 million.

While that’s more than many of us will spend on our houses, most of us don’t realize we could actually buy a used F-16 jet for less than what we’d spend on the Bugatti Centodieci. One such fighter jet recently went up for sale with a purchase price of just $8,500,000. It may be one of the only times when a plane seems like a bargain.

Why is the Bugatti Centodieci so expensive?

The main reason the Bugatti Centodieci is so expensive is because it’s a rare vehicle connected to a highly exclusive brand. The company created just 10 Bugatti Centodiecis and as of right now, each one is sold. This means while the sticker price is higher than the cost of an F-1 jet, it’s not so high that people who like owning a one-of-a-kind vehicle aren’t willing to open their checkbooks. 

As mind-blowing as the Centodieci’s price is, it’s worth noting it’s still not the most expensive car ever made. Another vehicle Bugatti released this year, the La Voiture, is worth $12.5 million. The company is making just one of these vehicles and according to Bugatti, it’s already sold. No mention has been made of who purchased this one-of-a-kind car.

Is it possible for the average person to drive a Bugatti Centodieci?

With only 10 Bugatti Centodiecis made and sold, the only hope you likely have of ever sliding behind the steering wheel of this ultra-luxury car is if you’re lucky enough to have a strong connection to one of the people who already owns one. 

The best way to try out a luxury or sports car out of your price range is to find a rental company that specializes in luxury and sports vehicles, like Bugattis or Ferraris. You can rent the car for however long you want and drive to your heart’s content. It’s not uncommon for business professionals and celebrities to use these same fancy rental companies to make a good impression. Sadly, it’s unlikely that any of the rental companies will have a Bugatti Centodieci.
