The Chevy Corvette is undoubtedly one of the most stylish, iconic exotic American luxury sports cars. Although there have been a lot of issues in the production and shipping of the 2020 Chevy C8 Corvette, Chevrolet is already looking to the future with exciting news about the 2023 Chevy Corvette line. Here’s an overview of one of the biggest, most exciting changes to the 2023 Corvette line – the 2023 Chevy Corvette E-Ray Hybrid.

With the likes of Tesla, BMW, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, etc. flooding the market with impressive, new electric vehicles, there is little doubt about electric and hybrid vehicles being the future of the auto industry. Furthermore, with a growing selection of hybrid luxury vehicles, it is no surprise that Chevrolet (a carmaker famous for its gas-guzzling muscle cars and sports cars) is following this trend with the 2023 Corvette E-Ray Hybrid. 

What we know about the 2023 Corvette E-Ray

Although the 2023 Corvette E-Ray is some time away from hitting the market, car enthusiasts have been waiting tirelessly to know more about this exciting hybrid. The first bit of information about the 2023 Corvette E-Ray was that it would be a hybrid all-wheel-drive model (given the codename “eAWD”). With even better handling, faster acceleration, and improved rough terrain driving afforded by being all-wheel drive (AWD), the 2023 Corvette E-Ray is going to be exhilarating to drive.

Later on, details more new details were uncovered about the 2023 E-Ray including the placement of the electric motor in the front storage compartment of the vehicle. Additionally, Muscle Cars and Trucks stated that the E-Ray would be powered by both an electric engine capable of 150-175 hp and a 490-hp LT2 V8- combining to produce around 650 hp.

Furthermore, the 2023 E-Ray will likely show improved lap times, 0-60 mph speeds, and general performance. Although it will be more economical and environmentally friendly than other Corvette models, the 2023 E-Ray will not be marketed as such. Sources in General Motors (GM) suggest that the 2023 E-Ray will be marketed similarly to other Corvettes – as an exciting, exotic luxury vehicle.

The Grand Sport will likely be axed 

A new article in MotorTrend states that the addition of the E-Ray will not be the only change to the Corvette line in 2023. According to sources said to be within GM, the E-Ray will be replacing the Grand Sport, which is set to be axed. 

The Grand Sport is considered the “middle” trim of the current Corvette line (between the base Corvette Stingray and the Z06. The Grand Sport combines the base model’s LT1 V8 engine with the wider fender flares, improved suspension upgrades, and other performance boosts that come with the Z06. 

Why axing the Grand Sport may be a positive  

This replacement is very exciting as the replacement of the Grand Sport with the E-Ray will increase the diversity of the 2023 Corvette line in many ways. One such way this will increase variety in the 2023 Corvette line is the fact the addition of the E-Ray will increase the types of powertrain options from two to three. This is because the addition of the E-Ray’s electric motor and V8 engine combo adds to what was previously just the base’s LT1 V-8 and the more powerful Z06’s engine.

Furthermore, the addition of the 2023 E-Ray also adds an AWD option to the Corvette line which was previously only Rear-Wheel Drive. The upgraded engine output from the E-Ray in comparison to the base model (yet still lower than the Z06) provides customers with an improved “middle” trim. The 2023 Corvette E-Ray is truly a step into the future.
