The Honda Accord is one of the most popular cars on the market because of its great reputation. The Accord is a simple but safe and reliable workhorse that can be a part of its owner’s garage for decades on end. With that being said, the 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid did have a little issue that was pretty expensive to fix.

An overview of the 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid

Like most other model years of the Accord, the 2018 Accord Hybrid was a pretty solid car overall. According to U.S. News, it was actually ranked third in its segment since it had an overall score of 8.6 out of 10. Like the regular Accord, the hybrid version had a lot of standard features, including a dual-zone automatic climate control system, a 7-inch touchscreen display, and a push-button start.

Furthermore, the 2018 Accord Hybrid also came with a lot of standard smart safety features. These standard smart safety features include, but are not limited to, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control among many more smart safety features. Plus, like most other Hondas, the Accord Hybrid had a very good reliability rating.

But of course, the main thing that separates the two Accords is the powertrain. The Accord Hybrid came with a 212-hp hybrid powertrain, and it got about 47 MPG combined. This is a significant improvement over the regular Accord, which got about 30 MPG in the city and 38 MPG on highways, according to U.S. News. 

The 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid’s windshield problem

Despite U.S. News’ glowing review of the Honda Accord Hybrid, Car Complaints said that some owners have reported a significant problem with their Accord Hybrids. That problem, according to Car Complaints, has to do with the windshield cracking spontaneously. While it’s possible that the cars are getting hit by rocks or similar things, the owners generally say that isn’t the case. 

Instead, for one reason or another, the Accord Hybrid’s windshield seems to crack out of nowhere, according to Car Complaints. As one user on Car Complaints simply wrote, “It was a cold day in Los Angeles. I came out in the morning and heated my car. The front windshield start to crack from the side and start to crack to the middle.”

Furthermore, this issue was also happening at a relatively low mileage. For example, one owner on Car Complaints claimed that they’ve had to replace their Accord Hybrid’s windshield twice already. They said that they had to replace the windshield after just two weeks, and they had to do it again after putting about 11,000 miles on their car. 

This could be a potentially expensive issue

Another user on Car Complaints remarked that, at first, the dealership suspected that the crack on the windshield was caused by a rock, but after another examination, the manager of the dealership allegedly said, “That wasn’t a rock- that’s a fault in the glass.” One other user talked about the potential causes of this issue, while another user speculated that a class action lawsuit may be on the horizon.

Plus, according to Car Complaints, owners are being asked to pay a hefty amount of money to replace their windshields. On average, Car Complaints said that it would cost about $810 for this job, though one owner said that they received a quote of up to $1,700. 

Additionally, since the average Honda Accord Hybrid had less than 8,000 miles on it before the owner reported this windshield issue to Car Complaints, it’s possible that owners may have to replace their windshield more than once over the course of the car’s life. This can mean a lot of money spent on just replacing these cracked windshields.
