This Famous Actress Called Jerry Seinfeld’s 1964 Aston Martin DB5 ‘Unbelievable’
Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is Jerry Seinfeld’s new television series. In every episode, he gets coffee with a famous comedian in an iconic car. Season six features a long-awaited reunion: Jerry hanging with Seinfeld co-star Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Best of all, he picked his old friend up in a 1964 Aston Martin DB5.
Seinfeld and “Elaine” cruised in a 1964 Aston Martin DB5
In Season six, episode one of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Jerry Seinfeld gets right down to business. He first introduces his 1964 Aston Martin DB5 with a series of closeups of the car set to a 007-ish soundtrack. As he takes off, he notes that the car is finished in Silver Burch. Then he reveals the rumble of the engine. Seinfeld describes it as an “all-aluminum 280-horsepower straight-six.”
Aston Martin built the DB5, a British grand-tourer, from 1963 through 1965. The luxurious sports car featured a lightweight magnesium-alloy body, five-speed transmission, and an advertised top speed of 145 miles per hour.
Though Jerry Seinfeld’s $50 million car collection is mainly priceless Porsches, he calls this Aston Martin, “The one.” He says, “No other car could have possibly been exactly what James Bond needed when it was time to save the world.”
Julia Louis-Dreyfus loved the car
When Jerry Seinfeld arrives at Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ house, he parks his Aston Martin in her driveway. Then he goes around the corner to her front door. The two friends greet and hug. Then he walks her around the corner to see the car. Julia has no idea what’s coming and says, “Oh boy, I’m nervous.”
When Jerry reveals the DB5, Julia laughs with glee. Then, she shouts, “Oh my god. Look at this thing!”
Julia reveals that in person, the famous car is “Unbelievable looking.” After she catches her breath, she admits, “I have never seen anything quite like this.”
At a loss of anything else to say, Julia stammers, “Look at the wheels.”
Jerry grins, “I know, Borrani wires.”
So Julia shrugs at the camera and jokes, “That’s what I was gonna say.”
Jerry opens the passenger door for Julia. Then they take off to get some coffee. While driving, Julia admits, “I’m not a car person. But I must say, it’s so lovely, this car.”
The reunited Seinfeld stars, Jerry and Elaine, draw looks wherever they go. While driving around town, another motorist sees Jerry and Julia in the DB5 and slams on her brakes. She sarcastically shouts, “You don’t bring any attention to yourself!” As they drive away, Julia explains to Jerry that they just had a run-in with her neighbor, Hillary Swank.
Why Jerry Seinfeld Chose The Aston Martin For Julia Louis-Dreyfus
In Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Jerry Seinfeld carefully matches each vehicle to the celebrity he is hosting. When Julia asks, he explains why he selected the 1964 Aston Martin DB5 for her. When she calls the car “Chic,” he responds, “Yeah, well, that’s you.”
Later Jerry says of the DB5, “It’s English, high-end.” He adds that he chose the Aston Martin for “Elaine,” “Because you are the James Bond of comedy. Whatever the mission, whatever the situation, you come in and kill it!”
Julia smiles and responds, “That is–first of all–the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me.
In the DB5, the two old friends got to get espresso and reminisce about filming the Seinfeld sitcom. As their get-together draws to a close, Jerry says, “It is so fun to be reminded of how funny you are.” Julia smiles and says, “Likewise.”
