This GMC Terrain Tumbled From the Second Story
We have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that the GMC Terrain can’t fly. But the good news is that it’s pretty safe and sturdy. The GMC Terrain managed to protect a woman after falling from the upper level of a parking garage.
The GMC Terrain took a tumble
According to the Dayton Daily News, a 53-year-old woman is in stable condition after the SUV she was driving crashed and fell from the second floor of a parking garage in Dayton, Ohio. It’s a little difficult to identify the SUV, but we think it looks like the GMC Terrain.
Based on the shape of the rear end, horizontal taillights across the middle of the tailgate, and the GMC emblem on the front, it looks like the Terrain. However, it could be a different SUV.
Either way, we’re glad the woman is in stable condition and hope she has a speedy recovery. No other vehicles or passengers were involved in this accident.
The crash was reported around 8:47 a.m. with the vehicle coming out of the second floor. It appears to have crashed through the brick barrier on the second floor of the parking garage. The Terrain landed upside down on its roof.
Firefighters were quick to respond. They already rescued the woman from the front seat, and she was taken to the hospital before the police arrived. The Dayton Police Traffic Service Unit is investigating the crash.
How safe is the GMC Terrain?
The GMC Terrain must be a pretty safe option. Despite looking pretty mangled after taking a fall from the second story, it looks like the roof and front end held together pretty well. Falling from heights isn’t exactly something SUVs are crash tested for.
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Terrain is pretty safe. It received excellent scores in various safety rating tests. The structure and safety cage received a good score.
This is the highest score possible, and it includes roof strength. The head restraints, seats, side strength, overlap driver’s side, and passenger-side also received good scores. However, the Terrain did receive a poor rating for its headlights.
During testing, the GMC Terrain’s low beams provided excessive glare at night. The high beams were inadequate on both sides of the road during straightaways and inadequate around sharp left and right curves.
What features come with the Terrain?
You can get started in the 2021 GMC Terrain for about $25,000. This is a pretty competitive price. For example, the 2021 Toyota RAV4 begins at about $26,250. These prices are before destination fees, and dealer markups have been added.
The Terrain comes with the GMC Pro Safety package. It includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, front pedestrian braking, a following distance indicator, and more.
Other optional safety features include parking assistance, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, blind zone warning, and a safety alert seat. Hill descent control comes standard, and all-wheel drive is available.
With the standard teen driver system, you can encourage better driving habits. You can enable the settings with your key fob. You can activate safety features and limit certain features too. An in-vehicle report card is also generated to develop tips based on your teen’s driving habits, so you can coach them to improve.
