Anyone who has ever visited a car lot knows that not all vehicles are created equal. If they were, then automakers wouldn’t have different trim levels. But as we all know, those trim levels not only offer better features, they come with a much higher price tag. Which Ram truck is the best luxury buy?

The all-new 2020 Ram Heavy Duty Limited Black Edition is the epitome of this. You get all the features you could ever want, but you’ll pay for it. The Fast Lane Truck has all the details about what the Black Edition offers, and whether it’s worth it or not.

Limited is better

The Limited trim is the top trim level offered for the RAM 2500 and 3500 trucks. Essentially, this means you not only get more options on the Limited, but you also get the very best.

For this trim, there are two options for engines. One is a 6.4-liter HEMI gas V8. The other is a 6.7-liter Cummins I6 turbo-diesel engine. The diesel engine rates at 400 hp and 1,000 lb-ft of torque. Both engines come with a six-speed automatic transmission. If you go with the diesel option, you’ll be delighted to learn that it can also tow well over 30,000 lbs. It can also tow a camper or a boat now stress-free more than ever.

Other features that assist with driving include adaptive cruise control, adaptive LED headlights, and adaptive steering. You also get forward-collision mitigation with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage, and rear cross-path detection and lane-keeping assist.

Inside, you will find the quietest truck ever. Thanks to the acoustic glass and active noise cancellation, RAM has made this a standard on every trim level. There is also a 12-inch infotainment screen, premium leather that feels as luxurious as it looks, and wood trim. If that’s not enough, you’ll love the navigation system, 4G LTE mobile hotspot, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, five USB ports, and up to three 115-volt outlets, which can handle up to 400 watts.

It doesn’t get bolder than this

The 2020 Ram HD won the MotorTrend Truck of the Year award over competitors like the Ford F-150, the Toyota Tacoma, and the Chevy Silverado. Why may you be asking? Ram chucked the age-old theme of which truck can tow the biggest train, and decided to give consumers options.

If you decided to go with the Limited Trim, you could go with the Black Edition. The best part? Everything on the truck is painted a beautiful, shiny black that is sure to turn heads.

Ram stated, “Available on Ram 2500 and 3500 Limited models, this special edition features a black Limited grille with R-A-M lettering, 20-inch black aluminum wheels (17-inch painted black wheels with machined eyelets on Ram 3500 Limited models with available dual rear wheels), an all-black interior and eye-catching black exterior accents.”

The price is steep

You won’t find the price listed readily on the RAM site, and with good reason. It’s not cheap. If you buy the RAM 2500 Limited Trim with the Black Edition, it costs $64,440.

If it makes you feel any better, this price is based primarily on the Limited Trim, which costs $63,145. The Black Edition only adds $1,295 to the total costs. For that price, it’s more than worth it, however.

It would be great if the Black Edition were offered on all the trim levels because it is beautiful, but RAM offers it only on the Limited. That might be their way of getting consumers to upgrade. If that’s the case, it’s probably definitely working for those who can afford it.
