Tesla is a formidable car manufacturer, with advancement at the forefront of its mission. Creating technologically advanced cars for years, the car industry and people all over the world turn to Tesla for ideas of the future.

Unlike other car companies, Tesla doesn’t bow to tradition. Tesla’s Model S sedan and Model X SUV haven’t gone through many changes since the year of their debut, and as we’ve heard, Tesla has no fear that’s how it will stay.

The most recent updates to Model S and X will be the last you see

Tesla’s Model S sedan and Model X SUV debuted in 2012 and not much has changed since then. Recently on Twitter, it was revealed that a major change isn’t in Tesla’s plans either.

Via our friends at MSN, Tesla CEO Elon Musk claims that neither model will be receiving a refresh any time soon. And though every car manufacturer seems to be required to update car models in order to compete, the Model S and X seem to be fine as is. Tesla’s updates in recent months may be the biggest changes Model S and X fans will see for a while.

According to the Road Show by CNET, some of the most recent updates to the Model S and Model X include:

  • An extended range to 370 miles on a single charge with the Model S and an extended 325 miles on a single charge with the X
  • A faster and more intuitive touchscreen
  • An updated permanent-magnet motor in the front, induction motor in the rear
  • More torque and better power
  • An adaptive suspension system
  • New V2 Superchargers that provide extra power and faster charging
  • Updated interior options with new finishes

If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it

While Elon Musk has made it clear that there won’t be any interior upgrades or major work put into the Model S and Model X, Tesla fans shouldn’t worry.

Tesla will, however, ensure that the S and X will continue to get minor updates, especially in software, to keep up with future technology. And though there are no plans on discontinuing the Tesla favorites, it is still unclear where the Model S and Model X fit into Tesla’s grand ideas for the future.

Most other car manufacturers could expect to take a giant loss after not focusing enough on changing and updating its vehicle models. But Tesla’s decision to keep the Model S and Model X vehicles right where they are makes perfect sense for Tesla’s finances, as well as its future.

Even though 7 years is a long time in the car world, the Model S and Model X already contain technologically-advanced features, as well as simply being quality builds. Compared to others in the market, the Model S and Model X have no problem competing as the best of the best.

Where Tesla is focusing its future instead

In fact, keeping the Model S and Model X right where they are could be an ideal business move on Tesla’s part. After all, the Model S and X only account for a small portion of Tesla sales.

According to The Drive, recent sales of both Model S and X came to just over 17,600 cars combined, while sales for Tesla’s Model 3 total more than 77,500 cars.

In addition, with a future like Tesla’s, it may make more sense to divert its investments into newer models and future technology, instead of sinking money into vehicles models that are already perfect the way it is.

With a future that includes the new, all-electric, crossover vehicle Model Y and according to CNBC, plans for an all-electric pickup truck, it’s easy to see why Tesla is looking ahead.
