The Lamborghini Huracan STO is an impressive car. It is basically a street-legal race car. It also has the looks and performance to back that up. But, as impressive as the Lamborghini is, there is an American muscle car on the market right now that pumps out more horsepower, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye. 

The 2021 Lamborghini Huracan STO

The Lamborghini Huracan STO (Super Trofeo Omologato) is the kind of car that takes one’s breath away. It is low to the ground, has lots of knife-edge lines in its design, and incorporates a roof snorkel. It also has the growl of a 5.2-liter, naturally aspirated, V10 powerplant. So, if the design isn’t captivating enough to the onlooker, then the exhaust note is. 

The 2021 Huracan STO is a lightweight, wide, stripped-down vehicle made with the track-minded owner in mind. In fact, the storage space in the car is big enough for a single helmet and nothing else. There is also a titanium roll cage and a dual-level wing that speak to the car’s track vibe. 

The overall package of the Lamborghini Huracan STO is jaw-dropping, and it should be for an expected $330,000. The car has not arrived in the United States yet, but deliveries are expected to begin in the Spring. But is it worth it? 

Exclusivity or horsepower, which seals the deal? 

There are people that are more concerned with horsepower than exclusivity. The Lamborghini Huracan STO certainly falls into the category for the buyer seeking that exclusivity. But, for buyers looking for horsepower, there is a mainstream American manufacturer that creates a car regularly with more horsepower than the Lamborghini, Dodge. Yeah, Dodge! 

American muscle cars have been carving up the blacktops in tracks and neighborhoods nationwide for years. More specifically, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye is one of the best at delivering horsepower to the ground. The Challenger’s entry price is also a lot less than a Lamborghini. But, how does it stack up on power?

The Lamborghini falls behind the Dodge

In short, the Lamborghini falls behind the Dodge. The specs on Lamgorghini’s website indicate that the Huracan STO’s V10 pumps out 640 cv, which translates to 631.2 hp. That is a very strong and respectable number. However, it falls short in comparison to the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye, which has 717 hp coming from a 6.2-liter supercharged V8.

Not to be forgotten is that the Dodge is more accessible, starting at $72,295. Did we mention that the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye also has a usable trunk and a glove box? So, horsepower, storage, and accessibility are all greater than the Lamborghini.

It would be remiss, however, not to mention that both cars were created with very different missions. The Lamborghini Huracan STO is made to excel at a road course track. The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye is made to excel at a drag strip. In fact, Dodge once bragged that a Hellcat equipped Charger can lift the front tires off the surface when the lights at the dragstrip turn green. That is not to say that the car is not able to corner. It just means it does not corner as well as the Lamborghini Huracan STO. 

Lamborghini or Dodge?

Here is the long and the short of it. Overall, both cars are extraordinary. Any owner will be proud to have them in their garage. The extreme performance offered by the Dodge and Lamborghini is sure to put a smile on the face of owners and passengers alike. But if you want a car that performs like a well-rounded athlete, the Lamborghini is the clear choice. However, if you want an athlete that specializes in sprinting, then the Dodge is the go-to. Either way, enjoyment will be had by all, but the Dodge will be cheaper and have more horsepower.
