Automotive collaborations have been around for a long time. Typically the automaker will partner with a product from another sector like the BMW x Kith collection released recently. These partnerships are a nice crossover that blends two worlds to bring people from different interests and backgrounds into the automotive world. The new collaboration between Lamborghini and Ducati clearly wants to double down on the motoring community – and the Italian flare. 

Ducati and Lamborghini team up for twice the Italian power 

Ducati and Lamborghini aren’t quite as far as a stretch as it might seem on the surface. Volkswagen acquired Ducati in 2012, adding to its already strong portfolio of brands like Lamborghini, Bugatti, Porsche, and the list goes on. Seeing as how they are both under the VW umbrella, the partnership seems like a no brainer. So what are the Italians working on together? 

The Ducati Diavel 1260 is paying homage to the limited release hybrid hypercar, Lamborghini Siàn FKP 37. The two Italian thoroughbreds come from factories that are only 20 miles from one another. Seeing that the two makers are owned by the same parent company and so near one another, it is pretty surprising that the two haven’t worked together before now. 

The Lamborghini Siàn FKP 37 was the starting point for the Ducati

The Ducati Diavel 1260 was inspired by the Lamborghini’s first-ever hybrid car, the Siàn FPK 37. According to New Atlas, the Siàn debuted in 2019 as a tribute to VW Chairman, the late Ferdinand Piëch. Lamborghini only ever made 63 examples of 800-hp hybrid hypercar to reflect the company’s first year, 1963. Even at $2 million a pop, the Lambos sold out quickly. One year later, the 19 open-top versions of the Siàn roadsters sold out just as quickly. 

The Ducati Diavel 1260 was the obvious choice 

As New Atlas reports, the Ducati is packing serious heat. The Italian sportbike makers loaded the bike with a monstrous 162 hp and adjustable Öhlins suspension and a fully electronic suite of gizmos and gadgets. Although the Diavel wasn’t changed much mechanically, the appearance was specifically crafted to match the Lamborghini. 

The Ducati got coated in the exact same Gea Green that comes on the $2 million Lambo. The wheels and trellis frame also got the same “twining” treatment with a fresh coat of Electrum Gold. 

No plastics, only carbon fiber

Ducati is taking the twin thing seriously. It replaced anything that would normally be plastic and replaced it with carbon fiber. Not only did they do the body fairings in carbon, but they also replaced the stock air intake, central tank cover, mudguards, exhaust cover, seat cover, headlight frame, and engine spoiler—all of this carbon fiber results in a bike that is 2.2 lbs lighter than the standard version. 

Ducati is staying limited alongside the Lamborghini

The Diavel 1260 Lamborghini will also be offered in limited amounts, 630 to be exact. Although Ducati is offering 10x more bikes than Lamborghini offered of the Siàn, it is sticking with the “63” theme. Of course, the Ducati won’t fetch quite the same money. Something tells me it will still be on the higher end of motorcycles.
