We’re looking forward to the new year for many reasons. One of those is an exciting new Jeep Wrangler, set to drop on January 1, 2021. That’s right: The toy company LEGO has introduced a Wrangler to its lineup, and our inner child is stoked to see what all the buzz is about. Jeep Wranglers — even used models — are notoriously pricey. So here’s everyone’s chance to own the legendary SUV. We’ve got all the details. 

LEGO Technic Jeep Wrangler

This is the first time we’re seeing a Jeep Wrangler made of LEGO bricks, which seems strange considering the vehicle’s iconic look and popularity. MotorTrend recently discussed this exciting new build, priced at $49.99. It’s unfortunate this LEGO set won’t come out till after the holidays, but at least we can get a Wrangler for a price we never dreamed of.

As far as assembly goes, this is one you’ll have to put together yourself, but that’s the fun and experience of LEGO bricks. The Wrangler is made of 665 pieces, which is a relatively easy build. For comparison: The LEGO Technic Land Rover Defender has a whopping 2,573 pieces (and a $200 price tag, but we digress).

The build

With the Wranglers 665 pieces, you get a lot of cool features. Car and Driver notes the finished product is the two-door, off-road Wrangler with huge tires you’d expect. You’ll also enjoy the classic rear-mounted spare and a front steering system operated by the push of a button. Then there’s the winch mounted to the front bumper to help navigate your build through any obstacles it comes across.

Also included are the classic Jeep grille and a Rubicon sticker, so you know this model is the real deal. That’s a lot of detail packed into a toy measuring 4.5 inches tall by 9.5 inches long and 5 inches wide. Sadly, you won’t find the Utah Monolith as part of your LEGO creation. The clever marketing tool turned out to be a charging station for the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, in case you missed the big release. Happy building.

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 

The new year will also bring changes for the Jeep Wrangler you can drive. Car and Driver covered the biggest additions: two new powertrains. They’re the plug-in hybrid 4xe and the 470-hp V8, included in the new Rubicon 392. The new powertrain promises electric-only driving up to 25 miles and 0-60 mph in just 6 seconds. All of these impressive stats for the 4xe powertrain are available on only the four-door Unlimited models.

An 80th-anniversary model and an Islander trim also await. The Wrangler Islander boasts a beach-themed exterior that includes a tiki-inspired decal. An available white hardtop pops off quickly for an open-air experience. Island vibes continue inside, where the seats feature surf-blue stitching. The 80th-anniversary model is ready for its debut late this year. It offers special badging, floor mats, and granite crystal metallic finishing. Jeep promises to dress the Wrangler up for the occasion.
