This One SUV Can Be Ordered in 19 Different Versions, and the Top One Goes 186 Mph
Porsche is celebrating 20 years of the Cayenne in 2022. When it was launched, it came in regular Cayenne and Cayenne Turbo variants. Since then, Porsche has kept pushing the limits of the SUVs platform with Hybrid, GT, GTS, Turbo, E-Hybrid and so many more Porsche Cayenne versions. For 2022 it comes in 19 different versions, including one of the fastest SUVs ever. That’s hard to believe, but Porsche buyers like to play Goldilocks and find the SUV that fits them best.
What are the 19 Porsche Cayenne versions? They’re all variations on a theme.
The range of Cayennes is dizzying, from the base $72,200 Cayenne to the $188,700 Cayenne Turbo GT. It’s fruitless to try and explain each version like Porsche does. But, they come in several basic flavor profiles. The Cayenne and Cayenne Coupe are pretty much the same thing. The big difference is the Coupe has a fastback-style sloping rear end. The Coupe still has four doors, seating for five, and four-wheel drive. All are luxury SUVs, but this being Porsche, the differences are in the powerplants.
They come with five engine variants: gas versions, E-Hybrid versions, Turbo, S, and GTS. The regular version has a gas-powered twin-turbo V6. The S versions have a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 with 434-horsepower, the Turbo uses a twin-turbocharged 4-liter V8 that makes 541 horsepower. The E-Hybrid can be ordered in regular, S, and Turbo. The GTS is the driver-focused version that is more race-track biased. It has the big twin-turbo V8.
The most powerful version is the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid. It has 670 horsepower and can hit 100 kph, or 62 mph, in 3.8 seconds.
There are two Porsche Cayenne versions of the E-Hybrid in coupe or regular body styles and Platinum
The Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid version comes in regular or Coupe versions. It is a seriously quick and fast hybrid. It uses a 4-liter twin-turbo V8 paired with Porsches E-Machine to make 670 horsepower. It’s the top Hybrid in the lineup.
The non-turbo Cayenne E-Hybrid pairs a 3-liter turbocharged V6 with the E-Machine to achieve 455 horsepower. It, too, can be ordered in regular, Coupe, and Platinum versions.
How much is a fully-loaded Cayenne?
The top Cayenne is the Turbo GT that starts at $188,700. It is just as quick as its corporate cousin the Lamborghini Urus to 60 mph, at 3.1 seconds. It can come with every option Porsche can imagine, except the E-Hybrid powertrain. The Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupe is $173,800, but has 39 more horsepower than the Turbo GT, thanks to its plug-in hybrid system.
No Cayenne is inexpensive, but the base model beats a lot of performance SUVs. The base Cayenne today makes 335 horsepower and can sprint to 60 mph in less than six seconds. It starts at $72.200. The base model Cayenne has a 3-liter turbocharged V6. The Coupe has the same specs, but because it can be ordered with the upgraded Sport Chono Package, it can hit 60 in 5.7 seconds, according to Porsche. The Cayenne Platinum Editions of the Coupe and Cayenne bring special satin paint and extra standard equipment. It’s a $3,700 option on Cayenne S, E-Hybrid, E-Hybrid Coupe, Coupe and Cayenne.
